It's useless to try to guess whose alt-account was that, if somewhat really wanted to find out the best way would be to check demos for matching playstyles and contributions (spriting work is not something everyone can do).
I don't have time to comment in depth on "be the same person everywhere" imperative, but it does rub me a wrong way a bit. I am against alts on the same community, but I am a proponent of pseudonymity and being able to walk away from one's past and start a new identity to avoid bullying, harassment, etc. because I have experience of such things. And thus I am also against being forced to use a real (or legal) name, against those "social networks" things and against profiling. Counteracting profiling (in particular, through stylometry) may require people to change their writing styles, thus be "not quite the same person".
As for that thread, there was indeed a good post:
I would not assert it is necessarily about "having taken a break", but maybe an issue of personal trust, or personality clash, or resistance to authority that made some changes and won't go away or whatever. NOT suggesting these are the real issues, just mentioning some of the possible alternatives.

Speaking as a relative newcomer here, I can only say there seem to be some pretty strong feelings about something as innocuous as whether you need to be logged in to see a certain subforum or not. Those of you who are taking the matter personally should probably start talking about the real reason you're so upset. There's clearly a deeper layer to all this drama and the passive-aggressive stuff isn't healthy.
