mayhemicdestrvctor I love Razor and Demolition Hammer. That old school Disturbed is really good too. I've never listened to them until just now

komori huh for someone "repulsed" by metal, given the examples you've provided, you're already pretty much well versed into the genre. Judging by your profile pic and your previous posts i think it's safe for me to assume that you're a bonafide member of the Animenati, so to speak. And while i don't share the same passion or enthusiasm for this weird niponic art style as you do - that is, aside from video games off course (including the occasional tolerance i must have for the eye-cancer-inducing cuteness side of it.. as i find myself enjoying a lot the gameplay of the so called cute 'em ups such as Trouble Witches Neo! and also old titles such as Super Pang which i love to death) - i am however a big fan of their weirdness (and even able to tolerate effortless the kawaii aspect of it) when it comes to music. I've listened to a fair amount of 80-90s j-pop and i really liked it - especially the ear candy voice of female singers (which was a nice suprise tbh, since their voice usually makes my ear drums prone to seppuku when their disturbing succubi groans starts, in like, every anime ever) and the surprisingly good instrumental arrangements their bands usually have. One of my favorites is Shizuka Kudo, her vocal range is not only impressive but also the talented body of musicians in her band really makes her music stood out for me. I highly recommend a listen to her catalog, and a special recommendation to her late 90s rock-oriented album called I'm not. "But so far you're only gave a cute cute example... where's the weird niponic music you've mention before, mister?" you may ask. Well, Sigh. No, not "sigh" as in gasping. Sigh, the band. Now, if you google them you'll find that they are often labelled as black metal or avant- insert wathever here but you how this kind of cataloging endeavour goes, right? They can get reeeeeeally elastic with their inclusions. As is the case with Sigh. Yes, there is undoubtedly black metal aspects or even what the artsy-fartsy crowd might consider avant-garde to their sound but the dark-samurai Mirai-san does not limit his music to simple categories. Oh no, he mixes them all - and the result is one of the most finest, classy distorted cacophonies that ever grace our ears. Hence, Sigh is by far my favorite japanese band of all time (ok, second.. none can beat the magnificent SST Band). I highly recommend delving into the entirety of Sigh's discography - every album is very unique and even the ones that i find to be weaker ( Gallows Gallery up to Graveyard) are still worth a listen. Not to mention that their most recent work Heir to Despair is a damn good return to the eclectic soundscape they are known for. My favorite, thus my main recommendation is their 4th album Hail Horror Hail. If i were to give any additional recommendation regarding not only metal, but good music in general, i think that there's no better place to recommend than progarchives. There's enough material there to delve into for a lifetime. I suggest starting from their 'Top albums (of all-time)' list, then extend the results to 250 and from there: pick an old album along with a most recent one - and with time, branch off to the bands/genres that your ears enjoyed the most. I've been doing this for the past decade or so, it's a good way to know the classics while not missing out newer releases.

komori you otaku people will never miss an opportunity to assault my eyes with these imagery, wouldn't you? But ok, fair enough. I opted for interacting with the cute gang. I'm well aware of the risks. I know that it's stronger than you. So you are forgiven. Being the mildly spergmatic (that is sperg + thematic) person i am, i saw the opportunity to recommend some music from the land of the Shogun using your comment as a segway and i took it (albeit i think that i've ultimately went too ambitious and failed, but it was worth a try). And i disagree, none of the metal bands you've listed represents the "uninteresting side of metal". On contraire mon ami. They are top tier level of their game. Hence, i think that you are pretty much well equipped with the best that those subgenres can offer. Atheist, Death, Coroner, Gorguts and Voivod (your examples) are the very crème de la crème when it comes to the tech-metal crossover. They are the most innovativative in their fields without recurring to the dull whankery disguised as "complexity" from the talentless realm of djent - no to mention that low-tuned guitar chugging mixed with electronic noise is the true representation of the lowest scumbag-tier level of metal and it makes me want to kick Mick Gordon's nuts furiously as hard as i can everytime that same fuckin' riff comes up). How this aussie hack became the Nolan North/Troy Baker equivalent for game soundtracks is beyond me. Ok, what abouth the DBKC ( Doomer Board's Kawaii Chapter), sounds more palatable to you? (: Regarding games; absolutely. Basically every single video game genre has ' made in japan' on the label. And it rightfully represents a seal of quality. The passion and talent that those oldschool jap developers had for their creation is unmatched. Period. I think that FPS might be one of the very few exceptions of a western-originated subgenre. But i was talking specifically about the bullet hell subdivision of shoot 'em ups. Of which i've grown very fond of - and the aforementioned cute 'em ups offers a impressive catalog of high quality bullet hell games with amazing gameplay (but at the cost of inflicting upon me severe brain injury via the colorful display of cute'nsanity, if i may say so). But if you as a DBKC member is unaware of this genre and i am... well, i think i might need to rethink some decisions i've made in life. Here's an Arnold gif to rebalance the testosterone level of this thread:

i've tried really hard to come up with that tank shot so that it fills up larger portion of the screen, just so you know. Hey i appreciate the effort and you know what? It wasn't even that bad, it was kind of cut.. i mean, unacceptable. Totally unacceptable. i actually don't really listen to anything besides english-language music — it's in a habit. British musicians are kind of eccentric in their sensibilities, so breaking the habit might not be that far off. British musician, you say? brace yourself for another segway Ya know, i'm something of a musician myself hehe (as far as LARPing goes, at least) and from one musician to another, i propose the following: keep your eccentricity but leave your britishness sipping tea somewhere else - and allow yourself to break the habit (in a non-Linkin Parkian way) experiencing this brazilian solemnity in music form:

Well I'm going to ruin it again! HA HA HA! Behold!LOL. I'm glad deepfakes are being used for the greater good, like turning everything into Arnold Schwarzenegger. I wonder if I should do a write-up about "Information Entropy, Cancel Culture, and the new era of Deepfake News". It's not as big as an abyssal blowout as you'd first think (I think). We already have "chaos" lossly mapped to our limited bandwidth brains as it is, so it kinda breaks evenish. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- i've tried really hard to come up with that tank shot so that it fills up larger portion of the screen, just so you know. Hey i appreciate the effort and you know what? It wasn't even that bad, it was kind of cut.. i mean, unacceptable. Totally unacceptable. Ceasefire! Ceasefire! Withdraw your units. Withdraw your tanks. Put down your cannons of cuteness! Heh. I'm listening to an EDM mix on Youtube, but it has a hot anime styled chick as a thumbnail, one that will possess your soul if you look at her. spoilered for protection I'll detox by listening to one of my favorite guitar solos of all time next:
