Really? How is that even remotely possible, when torrents of shit WADs are produced on a weekly basis? How can Suspended in Dusk be the worst of the lot? Have you played more than a handful of PWADs or are you just starting out? ... With that said, despite of it being a favourite of mine, I find it vastly overrated (number one on IDGames with at least 200 votes), and that can be a off-putting, I know. For example: I went to the cinema expecting Prometheus to be in the same league as Alien, and for the first twenty to thirty minutes I wasn't disappointed, but after that... Urgh. I felt the same when BTSX came out, actually. Back to SiD: I'd say it's competently designed as an adventure, maybe a bit bland at times, but I like it. So I'm not arguing that you are wrong when you dislike it, I'm arguing that there are LOTS of worse WADs out there and you either haven't suffered through them... Or maybe you just have shit taste. Holy shit. Considering your response you missed my point. And I should've just avoided opening my mouth altogether but since I'm an idiot... First of all, I've never even said SiD was one of the worst wads out there, it's nowhere near that. The only thing I said was that it was the worst wad from what I've played thus far (admittedly I haven't played a bunch of 'em yet). Like, seriously, I don't understand why you overreacted so much to my post at all. |

I dunno, maybe it was my fault after all, maybe not.
It's not the first time someone wants a word with me after I share my thoughts on something though, so I'm not surprised by the reaction at all. In fact, I'm used to people bashing me for whatever reason they have, so whatever. I'll pretend this never happened.

That's ok. I didn't like Suspended in Dusk either. I've read people talking about it with such fond memories, and there's something to be said with the strong attention to texture alignment and detailing, but my memories of it were running out of ammo a lot, dying to zombiemen, and generally just not having a fun experience with it at all.

Don’t be like that agent6 bro. Olroda is a passionate Doomer, but you can call him a cunt in this situation :-p Nothing wrong with that opinion of SiD... I’ve seen what you’ve been playing going by the screens you post regularly and I’m not surprised after what you’ve played that you’d find SiD a little lacking. I regard it more as a mappers mapset than a gameplay one due to the feats of vanilla trickery and of pushing the boundaries of the old limits while looking clean as a whistle.

That's ok. I didn't like Suspended in Dusk either. You missed the terrible navigation. It's far too easy to get lost in some of the already few maps. @glenzinho I'm not angry, sad, or anything, but eh, I agree that he overreacted terribly. If you're curious about what wads I've played so far and my thoughts on them you can check my reviews on DW, but ironically I wouldn't recommend the one I wrote for SiD because it can't be considered one compared to the full fledged reviews I'd written since then (and the "review" in itself it's not well written anyway, just a few sentences that highlight its flaws). SiD was also among my very first PWADs, and even then I thought it was pretty, but nothing more. |

Hey now, I don't think you're an idiot, agent6! ...But the topic is called " Worst Doom WADs" and the first sentence in the original post is " What are the worst Doom WADs you've ever played?". So when I see such a claim as yours when crap like "My First WAD without an exit, stuck monsters and abysmal texturing" are plentiful, I reacted. I mean, SiD is at least designed in such a way that it works as a map (most textures are aligned properly, exits work, there's weapon and ammo progression, et cetera). Anyway, I guess I may have sounded a bit like what you can't say in Canada, which wasn't my intent. I just found it baffling that's all. |
