Crack Rock Steady is an obscure punk subgenre that's a fusion of Ska-punk and rock steady music genres. The lyrics are often socially/politically charged and usually sourced from the desparation of poverty and drug addiction, but combined with the contrast of uplifting sounds and beats. It's common that bands of this genre have a really fuzzy guitar and the vocals are raspy and kinda nasally.
I used to listen to this a lot growing up, because it was pretty relatable to me in a silly way that my friends and I with no jobs would scavenge up any money we could find to go to local punk shows any chance we got. We would bum ciggarettes, ask strangers to buy us beer, get lost in cities we didn't know, struggle to find a way home, etc. I don't listen to it as much anymore, but it still has a place in my heart.
