I just finished the last book of this series(not counting the one from 2012 that's an interquel) last night. Has anyone else read these? If so, what are your thoughts? I guess going forward in this thread it would be a good idea for anyone who gets really specific to use some sort of spoiler tags, in case anyone who hasn't read the books stumbles in here.
As for me, given the length and complexity of the tale, I'm still working through my feelings regarding the story as a whole as well as the individual books and how they struck me. I definitely think that it's not perfect, which even King himself admits to be the case, but as a whole I think I can safely say that The Dark Tower is very powerful and worthwhile, and is therefore something I would recommend to others. I'd be interested to hear what others think, especially regarding the "metafiction" aspect.

I haven't read any Stephen King novels in a while but I'll check this series out. If I'm not mistaken, Stephen King tends to use the theme of the supernatural in a lot of his novels, as noted in the Shining. However, in the Stanley Kubrick film of the Shining he changes the theme from supernatural to insanity. I personally like the insanity theme better in my opinion, though King didn't seem to like it. Are you into any Michael Crichton Novels? I remember reading Timeline back when I was a senior in High School and it was a great novel. I really should get into reading more, but I just can't find the time these days.

I haven't read any Crichton stuff yet, but he sounds like an author I'd enjoy. As for King, he has his flaws for sure, but in terms of character development I have yet to come across an author who can beat him.
