That's less poetry and more the scribbles of a mad man trying not to lose his shit to insomnia at 5 in the morning. Isn't that exactly what poetry is?

Getting a cold (on this same weekend I had to do an essay that's due quite soon *cough cough COUGH*) has had the benefit of enabling me to do a nice Duke Nukem voice again and am still flexing it and intend to keep flexing it because I'm the king of the world, baby

There's been a trend in the last few years where people release playable betas for public beta testing and will wait forever for feedback. There's something really 'incomplete' feeling when you know that the wad you're playing is RC2, or v.1.04.01 or whatever. I realize it's hard to release new maps without knowing for sure if its perfect, but there's a two way street that needs to be worked on: 1. Players need to be more respectful to mappers, reporting errors as if they are something that's in the mapper's best interest to consider, and not in a manner responding as if they have been betrayed. 2. Mappers need to be more comfortable with being imperfect and allow themselves to put out something that may very well be beneath what they believe could be their best work.

For some reason many people are pretty bad at describing what they enjoyed, and are depressingly good at pointing out tiny mistakes, demanding that you fix them, and making them sound like a huge deal that totally ruins the map.

I dont understand this line too well. Can you explain it? (especially the latter part) Making maps for Doom takes a lot longer and is harder to master than playing Doom is. Sometimes players can be unreasonably cruel when reviewing a map which can be really painful to hear after you've spent many hours slaving away until you finished something you are really proud of. Some say its good to develop thicker skin, which is also true, but I also know there are fewer good mappers actively making things in recent years. It takes a long time to make maps that are very good and when people come to expect that your maps should be above a certain threshold of quality, it becomes more and more difficult and time-consuming to make maps people will enjoy at an amount proportional to the work you put into it.

That must be exhausting and practically soul draining. I'm pretty confident that as long as I put a decent amount of thought and effort into a map then it can't be bad (as how a lot of mappers should feel imo). I feel it's important to just make maps knowing it might not be better than the last and use them as opportunities to try out different design choices that you would have over-thought and end up playing it too safe on how to implement them in your next mind boggling masterpiece or whatever and should just use that experience for the future. Folk need to relax and just make some cool stuff without stressing so hard. Maybe part of why I don't care much about expectations is that a big part of my maps is trying to mess with expectations lol

Either way, Doom mapping for me... I want to explore new concepts and frontiers, make gameplay mods that aren't just fancy reskins, make story-driven maps, all the fancy stuff, but seeing how much the community is sticking close to abstract megawads and stuff like that (aka always the saem shit) made me adopt the Adeptus Mechanicus's motto: "All the best things had been already made and invented, going for a different idea or inventing new stuff is just heresy". I had a idea once, to make a episodical wad with live-action "commentary nodes"; you would walk up to a empty barrel with a question mark in it during gameplay, press your "use" key, and listen to me rambling about shit (and possibly with subtitles) while everything in the area freezes for a while (so you don't get rudely interrupted). I dunno what made me drop that idea, but I did. Probably the idea that no one "wontz cohmenterry noods in Duuuem iff dey wanna hurr communtary thewe wuld had plaid Kelw of Dooty urr anne Trepl Ayy Shit, ayy". And I don't really see why should I bother mapping for Doom :/

Okay, now that is just plain fucking cool and amazing. Camera movements, friendlies, cutscenes, simply amazing. If one could harvest this they could get a plethora of scenarios and stories to use as a map's basis. Geniuenly awesome.

Well I just had sleep paralysis for a time again today. Not sure if I slept or not but I did try going to sleep and its only been like 30 minutes since then. I tried to speak saying "yo what up" but couldn't so I managed to tilt my head and things were normal again after. Coincidentally I was working on my spooky doom maps again and was feeling a thing while doing so in the mid-hours of doing so. One of these days I will be able to say "howdy," and even then one day I'll get more fit and all then have a tender moment with a hopefully kind succubus for some nice lovely cuddles. Just another supernatural occurrence my dudes. Its just been a while since a sleep paralysis moment is all.

I've heard about sleep paralysis before and it seems horrifying. Is it weird that I kinda wish I had suffered a little more fear and agony in my life? I think it would really come alive in my mapping but because most of my life is pretty humdrum and controlled I have trouble making disturbing art in my maps that feels real.

So apparently the picture I have next to my bed and because it is next to my bed (that is a collage of magazine pictures) is a portal to the spirit realm because of how many eyes and faces are present belonging to random people. *shrug* I bet that already sounds pretty creepy to have in the first place lol. Art class project.

No offence but that sounds like something a freak like SArais would say. I don't know if you meant that seriously, but Jesus Christ almighty, that's creepy.

I also had sleep paralysis once... it was after watching a twisted video that had a lot of subliminal messages in it.. it was horrifying as hell, I felt and heard a demonic presence in my room, I heard deafening screaming echoing inside my head in a tone that I've never heard before and since.. "it" (the hallucination) made it's way out of a closet and was standing right next to me, I started out unable to move, but as my body came back under my control I stayed frozen out of fear. It was the most vulnerable I've ever felt in my life. Not fun.
When I finally got up I had to listen to some death metal to cool down. ;P
