In a recent interview with the CEOs of retail giants Target and Walmart, Walmart CEO exposed a huge vulnerability, warning that he would have to close some walmart stores if customers won't stop shoplifting/underscanning their items at self-checkout.
In the last couple years, Walmart has significantly expanded its self-checkout section to 25+ units per store, and rarely having more than 1 human cashier working at a time. So if youre checking yourself out and you dont like the stores prices you can... well, easily neglect to scan all of your items.
The CEO wants people to somehow have compassion for his corporation, even though he has a long track record of crimes against the economy. He has the highest number of employees actively on welfare, has broken up small businesses across the US, and has thousands of complaints for unpaid wages.
My personal experience shopping at walmart has been miserable. Its one of those places that "has everything" which tricks you into thinking youre going to conveniently get everything you need in one stop. But the shelves are messy and understocked, the prices are never labeled right, and it takes forever to leave, because the checkouts are never staffed appropriately, making every trip take an hour or more, even for just one thing.
In my experience, shopping there has gotten ridiculously oppressive. Any electronics $10 or more have blinking anti-theft sensors or are behind glass cases that need to be unlocked with a key. They do this to baby formula, diapers, childrens toys, and pet food as well. They have TVs and surveillance cameras everywhere and signs telling you youre being watched. Police cars are parked on the sidewalk outside the building. Greeters check your receipts on the way out. They have this obnoxious and sinister nuclear meltdown-style siren for when anyone trips the anti-theft alarm, usually because an employee didnt remove your anti-theft tag correctly before you finished checking out. They also have more people watching over your shoulder while you check out than they ever staffed as cashiers.
It's really insane. Anytime i shop there it feels like doomsday preparation and they are some superpower government that is strictly rationing resources or something. Its extremely chaotic and uncomfortable, and honestly their prices arent even good. No wonder people want their five finger discounts. If they shut down every walmart today it wouldnt be soon enough. Ill keep paying for only half my stuff at checkout if thats what it takes to bring them down.
