Even though I have a standard 1080p monitor, I have always enjoyed playing Doom and Quake and other retro games in 4:3 ratio windows, typically in 1280x960. Recently I thought it would be interesting to try playing other more modern games in this manner. Last night I set up Far Cry 5 in a 1280x960 window and it worked pretty well. The UI doesn't clutter the screen too much and I just enjoy it. What are some other recent games that might work well in this resolution without the UI strangling the screen real estate too much?

Which game genres did you have in mind? Only FPS or not just?

For example, The Witcher 3 looks nice in 1600x1200:
However, 1600x1200 is much higher than 1280x960, and a 1920x1080 cannot display 1600x1200. I suggest that you first see if you can get 1440x1080 as a custom resolution with your video card drivers. It will give you about 25% extra screen space (12.5% in each dimension) compared to 1280x960, which will make the UI less cluttered.

Or is it an option in the game?

That's not my video, and I haven't played the game myself. You could ask in the video's comment section, I guess.
