A Heretic/Hexen inspired DOOM and DOOM II mod for EDGE-Classic 1.34 or later. Brings a more medieval/fantasy style to the game with new weapons, monsters, items and graphics.

Apple

+1% health, up to 200%.

Blue Potion

+10% health, up to 100%.

Green potion

+25% health, up to 100%.

Wonder potion

+100% health, up to 200%.

Life Essence

+5% health, up to 200%. Occasionally spawned from fallen enemies.

Crusader Shield

Basic armor, saves 50% damage.

Talisman of Shielding

Magical armor, saves 75% damage and regenerates. Lasts until end of level.

Ankh of Life

Restores health to a 100% and doubles the amount you recieve from potions. Lasts until end of level.

Genie

Grants you three wishes from a selection of 8 items.

Ring of the Owl

Allows user to see clearly in the dark.

Ritual Dagger

Increased strength for a limited amount of time.

Boots of Resistance

Immunity towards harmful surfaces for a limited amount of time.

Elven Cloak

Partial invisibility for a limited amount of time.

All Seeing Eye

The power to see over great distances (full map).

Ring of Warding

Limited regenerating health.

Well, I've loaded DBP29: morbid autumn with this mod, can't kill a shadow in the first level, it moves annoyingly fast, is probably immune to crossbow (?) and kills me fast if I approach it in melee. Is there a manual or something to see enemy stats?

It also seems like dumbing down the difficulty when trying this is a good idea, cause it seems to be challenge oriented dammit.

...Ah fuck, got killed on ITYTD even. I dunno what the hell to play it with then, if DBPs are too hard for it.

P.S. Although perhaps DBP29 actually has a hard first map... I now recall I was surprised at its difficulty upon release. Will experiment some more, maybe other maps more sensible.

These are "ghost enemies", who can be identified by their semi-transparency. They are immune to non-magical attacks (aka physical attacks). It is a feature lifted directly from Heretic. Every weapon has at least one attack that will harm them (all weapons have primary and secondary attacks).

There are actually only two regular enemies in the ghost class along with any enemy resurrected by the Flesh Wizard.

The mod is designed deliberately to have more depth and complexity with the combat.

Majority of the enemies have the same HP as the ones they replace, and I tried to have their attacks match the original with how much damage they deal but many of them are far more extravagant and eloborate in behaviour than their Doom counterparts making it a little tricky with some cases.

I also tried this with Morbid Autumn. Thematically, they appear like they were made for each other. But Morbid autumn does have a lot of gameplay events that were designed with Doom's 'dumb' AI behavior in mind, so you can get grilled pretty badly. I couldn't get past my MAP02, which is a very easy map for me with standard doom weapons and monsters. The new weapons and items are fantastic but these enemies are really hard to fight with them. It would be cool to have the option to play this with just the weapons and not the new monsters so that I can get a good feel for how well the weapons work, then advance into the upgraded monster classes after I've gotten enough practice.

I may still get around to doing it, but I make no promises.

Yeah, the mod looks fantastic and combat is visceral, but all enemies are tougher than original counterparts, their missiles are all faster and hard to dodge. In its current state the mod will likely appeal only to challenge seekers, at least when paired with modern Doom levels, whereas it could have been entertaining broader audience.

I wonder how separating weapons/items and monsters would work. They really are thematically made for each other. Perhaps we could think of alternate way to promote this work. If someone on this forum can recommend an easy Doom wad that will go thematically well with this and remain easy enough, please post about it here. Let's gather some recommendations for wads that can be played by casual players with this mod.

Oh yeah, this is it...! This is the sauce! Thank you for this CeeJay, this plays beautifully in Morbid Autumn. Its still a little harder than standard doom because these magic weapons take a little bit to learn. It didn't occur to me how much mana i was wasting with timon's axe. It does more damage with increased range it seems! That changes how I play Doom with this now.

If you find the secrets, MAP01 has all the weapons except BFG and chainsaw so it's a great playground for this mod. Only snag I found so far is that shotgunners drop crossbows and chaingunners drop dragon claws, which may or may not be intended. It still plays fine. Thanks for this!!!

Meanwhile, I managed to survive map09 of Morbid Autumn with original, although I skipped a lot of monsters after I ran out of ammo. The trick was that there is a lot of room to dodge projectiles/monsters in that map, of course it would still be a lot difficult without foreknowledge, but at least that map was more survivable than others.

Glad we have a separate mod for weapons/items only already. Downloaded and will play soon.

Otherwise, it's silky smooth.

Version 1.1 unleashed.

Tons and tons of fixes, improvements, replacements, new features, etc.

Most noteworthy additions include an inventory system and expanded enemy immunity/weakness/resistance.

As before ghost enemies (transparent) are unaffected by physical attacks but now non-magical enemies are weak towards magical attacks while highly-magical enemies are resistant to physical attacks.

Requires EDGE-Classic 1.34 or later.

I should add that you may need to bind keys for Previous/Next/Use Inventory. They are unbound by default because the traditional keys for navigating inventory (left and right brackets) were used by EDGE's Action 1 and Action 2 buttons before EDGE-Classic introduced a proper inventory system.
