I have fond memories of being in the backseat of my parents van on long road trips playing gameboy. That little thing was the sauce! Since i started taking the bus to work I recently came across these new retro gaming handhelds to play my old games with. That would be perfect for my commute so the growing community surrounding these new retro gaming handhelds is pretty exciting. There's a lot of variety these days too Anybody here have a gaming handheld? There's a ton of choices on the market, sometimes bundled with firmware and emulators. And for a variety of prices, because they range in quality. I have my eye on the the BittBoy v3.5. The reviews look pretty good. bittboy.com/products/new-bittboyDo you have a handheld? Are they worth the hype?

That thing looks pretty dope
Man this thread made me remember when I was a kid and the 3DS came out. It was 2011 or so, so I was ten. It looked so badass, with the 3D screen and the clamshell design and the games, but it costed like 300 €, so there was no chance I'd ever get one, since my parents never bought me expensive stuff like that. I was so jealous of the kids with a PSP or the few with a DS. I lowkey wanna get a used one now that I'm rich I manage my own a small monthly chunk of my parents' money, just for 10 year old me.

For most people, smartphones now occupy the niche that handhelds occupied in the past. But touch is such a horrible interface for most of the classic games, that it is not surprising there is still a market for actual handhelds, with physical buttons for controls.

Oh boi, that's my other old passion. Especially since the times of the open handheld revolution (from GP32 and GP2X to the emulator handheld copycats).
The latest ones that I like (not in this old photo, I have much more now) is the Anbernic RG350 (and the metallic 350M edition) and GameKiddy 350H (the first one, not the metallic, something turned me off with how the dpad feels). I know there are some newer more powerful that can play modern emulators, but either they are Android or this Retro-Pie I can't get used to and stops giving me the old feeling of OpenDingux with random OPKs and community doing simple homebrew. There is something that makes me still want one with OpenDingux, can't explain it.. also back in the days of GP32 you found new homebrew (most of them are shitty but there were new to test, inspired you to code for the machine too and share) but now it's the same homebrew and emuls just ported (even I port my old demos and benchmark, not doing anything new).
