There used to be this one mapset that I played the heck out of as a kid. Basically, it was the "Knee Deep in the Dead" episode but the mapper added new areas, items, and way more monsters. I used to think it was so cool. I'm sure if I played it now it wouldn't hold up to the test of time, but I'll always remember those hours playing it back in 1995.
I think the wad was called Doominator, and might have been DMINATOR.wad. Dunno if it's even in the archives.

I have a soft spot for the master levels, except for Crainium's and Flynn's maps. Because they are so cute and small, yet full of gameplay and ideas. Same goes to Scythe until MAP28.
This style needs to come back. Too many maps in the past decade have been focusing on being the biggest and meanest. Eviternity feels like Scythe to me because most maps are short and stuffed with ideas.

around 2003 I was just getting into custom Doom PWADs with my buddy splatterhouse. We were obsessed with megawads and I especially remember Alien Vendetta and Hell Revealed 2 being real winners. After school we would go home and chat on AOL instant messenger and tell each other and talk about what maps we are on. That was so much fun! It's kinda hard for me to look back at these maps because I've advanced so much as a level designer and see a lot of design flaws I would avoid in my own maps today. But I still remember the sense of accomplishment and triumph from completing those levels back then so I will always have a special place in my heart for those maps for being a part of that time in my life. It was especially fun to enjoy the experience with someone.

Memento Mori I and II are top of list for me. At the time they were released, they had many new and interesting ideas, and were very replayable (especially given the constraints of the time).

Probably a lot of stuff from the 90s. Requiem, Dystopia 3, Galaxia, Trinity, etc.
