first world kids are pussies A fuckin-men to that. Bringing back to the topic of Daisy, the ending of Doom doesn't really have any context. It's just shocking. It doesn't contribute to the game or have any real meaning other than what we make of it. I also recall reading Adrian Carmack was sick to death of drawing Commander Keen shit for the last several years, so when they let him off the chain for Doom's artwork he went nuts and made some really twisted (badass) shit. You also have to remember this was the dawn of VGA graphics, where artists finally had enough colors to make semi-realistic artwork. Of course they're going to use it for gore, we're fucking human after all. Haven't you been paying attention?

I gotta say, that was the stupidest god forsaken shit I've ever read in my life. All what was left of my IQ, lost in one minute. Thank you.

The true trauma inducing event was playing Mount Pain for the first time.
I'll never truly recover.

Uhhh, so apparently 40oz is responsible for this recreation of Inferno's epilogue? Now I'm even more confused by this topic. Was it some kind of bizarre art therapy?

Yes, by recreating it in map format, I was kinda forcing myself to get over it. I also put bunny head decorations in UAC Ultra as well. I think it helped me take ownership of it instead of feeling like a victim.

I search for Inferno (but this is also the E3 name). I love it when a 2d artwork gets recreated in 3D, I want to travel through it.

Aw man, this is such a cool story. I think every hardcore Doom fan has a few of these. I was not traumatized but was definitely shocked when I realized the enemies were demons from Hell. I didn't know because around that time all I had was a bootleg copy of Doom 2 that crashed after the third level. I even wrote a dumbass poem about how Duke Nukem was morally superior to the Doomguy because of this, ironic huh?
I remember when I was 8 or so when my cousin came to my place and we played Doom. We got to the ending and she was terrified of the dead rabbit. I think the reason the dead rabbit more terrifying than piles of dead bodies is because you expect that shit in Doom, you slowly get used to it but seeing something so random, so innocent get viciously mutilated, at the end of the game when everything is supposed to turn out ok is quite a surprise. In my opinion, it mirrors the end text of E1, you're not getting what you're expecting and that could be frightening for a fragile young mind and because it felt so real, it kind of shows you how the real world actually works. That contrary to what your parents tell you, not always everything is going to be ok. That life is weird, absurd and does not give two fucks about your innocence and your preconceived notions of how it's all supposed to be. Once you beat the big badasses and clean out the moon base you're supposed to win, aren't you? aren't you? Where's your fat reward and ticket home? What the hell is this? It's not supposed to end this way! That's why it's so scary to a little kid. The unexpected is always more scary than the expected.
I don't know how it happened because back then I only had the bootleg copy of Doom 2 and had only briefly played Doom 1. I kept thinking about Doom 1 and how much better I thought it was than 2. I still do. Perhaps it happened later? I was definitely a little tyke though. I have lots of weird, random memories tied around Doom, stuff you wouldn't normally remember. Had lots of dreams related to it too, even Doom 3 Phobos. That's how powerful this game is!
Anyway, enough of my rambling. Considering your special relationship with Daisy, how did you feel about her inclusion in Eternal?

You just reminded me of how I was disappointed to find out - as a teenager - that Doom was a military shooter, and E1 episode "military bases", and protagonist a pathetic wimp who refused to shoot civilans, instead of being about sinner performing jailbreak from Hell in afterlife like I assumed in childhood.
Why original Doom had so much unneeded story instead of letting us project whatever we want unto it?

Hmm yeah, how about an alternate history DBP where you save Daisy at the end? Would be fucking sweet to be honest.

^ I did something similar to an abandoned mapset of mine, except daisy was resurrected with a special orb and you could then lure her to crawl under spaces too small for doomguy, to reveal some secrets.

Hmm yeah, how about an alternate history DBP where you save Daisy at the end? Would be fucking sweet to be honest. Mate, that sounds fucking awesome. Maybe even have a timer like in Prince of Persia so you are forced to act quick. EDIT: 40oz , this might be a way to get over your trauma, no matter how small. I wouldn't listen to people who say it doesn't matter, maybe there is a philosophical reason for why it affected you. Kids are being raised with the notion that everything makes sense and that they are in complete safety. From all the colorful toys and smiling Disney cartoons to all the comforting lies our parents told us to shield us from the truth. If our parents are wrong about these things, what else are they wrong about, what is true and false after all? I think Daisy is the symbol of the destruction of such a worldview and and I can see why having your worldview challenged in such a way when you are so young can affect someone. My cousin had a similar reaction but maybe not so pronounced so it's probably not an isolated event. I also read about similar incidents on the internet. I also suspect the prevalence of Daisy in Eternal is a way for these people to poke fun at the possibly similar reactions they had, as a way to overcome them. Or perhaps they didn't have them but they have some notion that they could have. It's probably just a joke though but hey, maybe I'm onto something.

Here is a wholesome painting of Doomguy with his best friend to make y'all feel better. It was immortalized in Eternal.

I didn't see the daisy part in doom eternal because I didn't play it. Will it be worth it if I spoil it and watch a video of it or do I have to play the game to truly experience it?

@doomro I liked Doom 2016 a lot, even when I wasn't totally on board with the violent "ripntear those huge guts" style of the game. It was definitely fun and I did get a rush out of it but when it was over I wasn't left longing for more. So when Doom Eternal looked like more of the same, plus even more power-rage brutality I had to take a pass.

Either way, I hope you will consider making a Daisy-themed DBP, maybe with a Prince of Persia-style countdown.
