I was watching this demoscene demo from 1993, where I couldn't help but notice how similar this artwork is to an imp. It doesn't help the fact that the demo happens to have satanic themes, so it gets more relevant to Doom. It could be a coincidence as this demo was released a month earlier than Doom official release, but maybe the author had tried the alpha versions or something and was inspired by them.

But I thought Doom's Cacodemon is based directly after Astral Dreadnought (that is what on a picture above, according to doom wiki).

Hmmm yes... so many amazing ideas are beamed into our heads at times from beings unknown. Perhaps the Astral Dreadnought AND the Cacodemon were both influenced by the same force hinged upon the same tangent as it was willed from their creator's sparks among the sea of thought.
