I've decided to play Anachronox. The name grabbed my attention because there is a texture rip of that game for Doom, unpaletted, and at least one of those texture was used in Bloody Rust, if I recall correctly (if not, it was some other doom mod, but they used what was easy to convert). ... I love the atmosphere. You are a broke detective with a debt to clean, and you are in deep shit. You get beat up and thrown out of the window at the beginning of the game, right in front of everybody. And the game basically continues in the same venue. Just beat a boss and got ripped off again. ... I was going to review it once I've finished it, but I never did. I am going to correct myself and say that what I wrote is not correct with respect to some further events - the game suddenly decided to pull a joke midway (it was actually being serious prior to that point) and throw you into an encounter with cartoony villain and introduce cartoony character. It broke my heart. What's more, that "funny" episode lasted far more than I could bear, so I started to use to walkthrough to get past that shit and back to normal. And while I did, and the game eventually got to dark again (transition from humour to dark through the phase of slighly phoned in sorrow), I lost the excitement I had when I was playing it initially. And I really loved the game till it dissapointed me. So, I quit playing it, didn't make it to the ending. Basically, the game pulled this trope: tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ReverseCerebusSyndromeand I don't think I will repick it any time soon. Tom Hall is my arch-nemesis, I wouldn't want to play the games by him after this shit. Also, the developers used the least testing for the sorrow segment (set in winter, were people confuse you with the other game who lived there): a lot of stuff can be grabbed second time when it's clear it was supposed to be one-time only, also the lines one person (a kid) says to you after you save its life are "Thank you for saving me and such". Literally like someone used placeholder, didn't have time to finish the game, so the developers tried to make that excuseable by "we are not really being serious by this point".

Some of these games are just so absurdly difficult or clunky that im surprised adults thought they were even releasable and people would willingly pay money for them. One game in particular is Lion King for the sega genesis. We got to stage 2 before we both decided to start using save states and even then the later stages require such adept pattern recognition and snap judgments and reactions I could easily see a child getting so angry they threw the controller through the television screen. I don't know dick about video games but I do know this; back then it was all about value for time spent. Games were only a couple megabits on a 50 dollar cartridge. Very simplistic concepts made in essentially what were programming sweatshops. If you paid 50 dollars for a game and beat it over a weekend you'd feel ripped off. There wasn't a billion collectibles, mods, trophies, endings, open worlds, or dozens of hidden characters. All you got was right there on the screen. Most of the time you had to make your own fun, like when Sonic the Hedgehog had only 6 measly zones. But it also had ring counts, timers and high scores. Enterprising people could extend the game by making use of these tools, but little else was in the game to prolong it's longevity except difficulty. Comparing these old console games to Doom is ridiculous. Doom can be changed and modified in dozens of ways with a text editor. Fun fact: Lion King was made that difficult on purpose. Disney didn't like the idea of some shithead kid beating the thing during a rental. Remember that? Renting games? If a kid rented your game and beat it, he wouldn't have to buy it. Disney doesn't like not making money, you may have noticed. So they petitioned the developer to make the game ridiculously hard. www.polygon.com/2019/10/30/20939859/the-lion-king-nintendo-switch-difficultyA little perspective on the player climate, technology and development of the time these game out is kinda important when looking back at them you know.

I've been playing Assassins creed black flag, and DB projects on Prboom(ps3).
I still can't decide if your stuff is too fucking hard or I'm becoming a pussy the older I get...

Lobo, I guess using non-PC controls makes it harder still. The sentiment of DBPs being hard is not uncommon, though, and that's (I presume) without playing on consoles.

I'm one of those people who prefers a gamepad to be honest.
Though the prboom controls on ps3 do indeed suck.

I have about 100 hrs. in Friday the 13th: The Game, now. I wonder if in any way, my little doom mod from 2014, based on Friday: the 13th helped to influence.

Picked up Metal Gear Solid 5 and killer 7. I'm still not big on open world games but I'm still liking it and curious how much time I've spent being stealthy VS travelling. As for killer 7 I've only just begun the game and I'm stuck on the first mission but I won't use a guide because surely I don't need it....
