Fucking Hell, this game is truly a masterpiece. The level design, game play mechanics, and graphics are superb. I'm typically highly critical of modern games, but Doom Eternal is a blast of member berries to the extreme. Dare I say, Doom Eternal surpass Doom 2016.
Things I liked:
1) The maps were massive. It literally reminded me of the epic level design from the God Of War series. ID Software did a phenomenal job with putting detail into every corner possible.
2) The game play. For the most part, at least 90% of the game is non-stop fast paced action. It brings me back to the good ol' fashioned Doom run n' gun days. Hordes of demons to slay.
3) Demons. Finally, they brought back the Arachnotron, and several memorable looking demons (like the classic looking Cancubus, the Tryant which is basically the original Cyberdemon, and the original zombie demons). Some new demons were introduced, such as the asshole known as the Marauder. 4) Music. Heavy metal, and perfect for the pace of the game play.
Things I had minor gripes with:
1) No pistol. How can Doomguy not have his trusty pea-shooter?? 2) Chainsaw runs out of fuel. Honestly, I've had this gripe since I played Doom 2016. I have some mixed feelings about having to only use the chainsaw in limited occasions. The one thing I was a bit okay with was that the chainsaw gets refueled every minute or so when you use it against small lightweight demons, such as the imp. But if you're out of ammo, and you can't use a chainsaw against big demons, you're kind of in a pickle.
Overall, I would give Doom Eternal a rating of 9/10 for single player game play. For Doom 2016, I'd say 7/10. I have yet to try the multiplayer for Doom Eternal. I hope it's good!
I'm curious to get other people's perspective on this game. What are your thoughts?

Yeah I love it too. Way better than Doom 2016 though shame about the usual multiplayer affair not making the cut. There's a pistol that can be accessed through console command cheats and the fact that having 2/3 chainsaw fuel pips is useless against bigger demons and that the crucible is useless against the marauder kinda sucks. I remember having issues with some of the Urdak platforming, heh. I'm glad they implemented cheat codes in the game though (Wish I could disable the sentinel armor screen effect (and it's not even real invincibility)! I'd give it a 9/10 too on the abstract summation scale too.
My favorite boss fight would have to be the Gladiator. I love the music that plays and how he looks like an original Hell Knight/Baron of Hell. I disabled tutorials the first time playing so that made it harder for me with the new mechanics but still a great time.

It was really cool seeing the fur ruffling on his legs when he moved and the face matching up with the MARBFACE of yore. Shame the fight was very difficult and required a few extra lives to triumph on my first attempt!
I think I preferred the Doom Hunter boss battle - there was so much build up to it and then the fight itself isn't too bad... Only to suddenly have you fight another two! Very enjoyable.
Yeah, the game is almost perfect, on UV, as far as I'm concerned. Such a great time exploring it all and getting my adrenaline pumping in big fights, enemies with all of the deaths I racked up. I'm glad the game only suggested Slayer Armour right at the end when I was struggling with the final IoS phase. I needed the boost at that point.

IMO it's decent, but not as good as everyone says it is. It's still way better than whatever the fuck that thing from 2016 is.
My problems are that the gameplay in 2nd half still devolves into "switch weapons as fast as you can" loop that's utterly braindead and unenjoyable. At least guns feel like guns this time and it feels good to shoot them. Extra lives are completely unnecessary, there's too many of them and they completely remove any kind of challenge from the game. Both Nekravol levels are a huge disappointment, the fights in them are so short and the visuals aren't all that interesting, especially when compared to Urdak, which is the next level. Story sucks even more than in D16, it really feels like a shitty fanfic and the scene with Doomguy talking has cringe levels comparable to Wolfenstein: Youngblood loading screens. Battlemode is complete ass, boring as fuck, unbalanced, broken and almost unplayable. The netcode is atrocious and there are so many game breaking bugs that it's really not worth to play right now.
So yeah classics are way better.
