I cleaned up an old record player my wife found in her grandmom's basement. Thing was covered in dust and grime. I took it apart to clean it from the inside out and put it back together. Now I gotta get a pair of speakers to see if it still works. Not too shabby! Anyone here listen to vinyl? Is it as amazing as people tell me?

I got my parents a vinyl on 2019's Christmas, but they've only played it once, and never again, so I guess not.

I mean.. I guess, I had my own player as a teen but I was never really into music. Dealing with cartridges/styli, dust, scratches and cheap or slow drive motors make the whole ordeal dumb in this day and age. I'd only consider bothering with it if I already had a collection of records.

yes (https://doomer.boards.net/thread/1569/ti-mememe-dmdrs-record-deck), no. The sound quality isn't that much better than CD etc. if it's better at all. I do like the associated little ritual of swapping the LP over while listening because stuff you have to work for (even a little bit) is always more satisfying than stuff you don't, plus older albums are supposed to be listened to this way. Keeping LPs clean is not a hassle providing you store them properly and keep the stylus free of dust, btw, which is something even I can manage.
Cool deck, by the way. Don't forget to set the counterweights and check the stylus is in the right position.
