There's a community project on Doomworld that is making a sequel to this, by Jaws In Space which seems super promising.

well, I'm disappointed to say it may not be as cool as I thought. I'm on map25 and the levels after map11 have been kind of unimpressive. While the first episode features a lot of cool and detailed techbases, episode 2 felt like a bunch of cramped arenas and episode 3 so far seems to be the same thing. Map23 is the most flagrant offender, being just a rectangular room filled with monsters

Yeah, the first (shareware) episode was best by far since the point of it was to make people buy the whole package.

I just finished it today, seeing this thread finally made want to try it. The first episode is pretty cool and I would call it a classic. Then the start of the second episode was interesting at first, but from MAP16 it's okay at best with a lot of bad filler. I guess that something went wrong in the development, probably they didn't have much time and had to rush it, or it's one of the first examples mappers fatigue in megawads you can see. Some nice tricks are used in the first episode (like the flooding room on MAP07 or the teleport exit on MAP11), and in the first maps of the alien world that strange grey and blue cave and the "hell in space" were cool moments but they last few minutes and you never see stuff like that onwards. The secret levels were trippy in a nice way, even if the gameplay sucked. From that point the wad gives up on the narrative it was building and I kept to see the same tan-brown city level. The idea for the ending was nice but the execution is so lazy. The text file, and the help screen, says that the was was made with DM in mind and to me some levels felt like DM-maps but with the add of single player stuff. I wonder if some already made DM-maps were slapped in here to fill the slots but it's just a speculation. I'm still glad to have played it and see something that despite the big flaws still managed to have some influences in classic Dooming, at times I was feeling like I was playing a proto-Hell Revealed. And I understand why nowadays this doesn't seem to get mentioned so often in the community, and for good reasons.

I remember not long ago someone mentioning it on Doomworld as underrated. I didn't know about it, and played and indeed some of the levels are pretty good for the time, however I have lost memories about it, so I can't remember how it looked or any level I particularly liked unless I try to play it again. I like finding oldschool hidden gems that I didn't play in the past (Perdition Gate was one of them), going back through early 199x and up, recently I mostly play oldschool and even revisiting some old classics.
