I've been playing Doom for a few decades now, but recently started teaching myself GZDB-Bugfix, Slade, UDMF, ACS, ect. with the intent to create my own maps and mods. I've also been lurking here at Doomer Boards for awhile now, but finally decided to sign up as after I get a bit more comfortable with the Doom development platform I'd like to be involved in some of the upcoming DBP wads that you all put out each month. I don't have anything I would deem complete enough to start a hype thread for quite yet, but I'm currently working on something of a speedrunning and platforming obstacle gauntlet which originally utilized some old wall-kick/dash/ledge climbing scripts, but is now mainly focused on compatibility with the new-ish ZMovement "parkour" mod. Beyond that I mainly picked Doomer Boards to set up shop because I don't see myself jiving well politically or morally with the overlords of Doomworld and while I do have a ZDoom forum account, Doomer.Boards seems to be more communally active when it comes to making new megawads. Beyond all that I occasionally stream on Twitch/Dlive where I play a lot of Doom WADs/mods, create music, build VST synths and effects and also try to teach and share my knowledge of programming and security. Nice to have you onboard the Boards skdursh, and top opening post! Have you got a link for your streams and such? If you want to join a DBP just make a map under the usual conditions as stated in the thread and submit it for approval in a timely manner. You're possibly too late for the current set unless you're super quick, but the next one will be starting on Sunday and will be led by bigolbilly featuring a fleshy theme. Have fun!

Always great to hear about another person getting into Doom mapping and modding. Looking forward to playing one of your creations in a future DBP!

I mean I've been lurking around the various Doom forums for a while to keep up with new releases, but Doomworld's leadership comes across as a bit fascistic for my tastes in an "either you agree with our political and moral views 100% or you're banned" sort of way. You're totally right. I haven't been banned there so every now and then I have an urge to post something but I realize there's no point. It's only gotten worse there I think. Doomerboards reminds me of when I first joined DW, but without the shit moderators. |

I don't think I'd have enough time right now to submit something for the current DBP but possibly this next month or the one after I intend to try to submit something worthy of the project. I've played almost all of the past DBP WADs at this point and almost every map has been of exceptional quality, especially for what are essentially speedmaps, so I would like to give myself the most ample amount of time that I can to work on my submission so that it can actually be worthy of inclusion into the WADpack. As for Twitch, I can currently be found under the name Skdursh2. I don't stream religiously, but I tend to hop on for a few hours once a week or so. |

I also kind of like the smaller and more experienced community feeling of Doomer.Boards as well. Doomworld seems like the core go-to for people who are really new to classic Doom and they tend to ask a lot of obvious questions that could be solved with 2 to 3 words and a search engine. I feel like you really don't just stumble across places like Doomer.Boards unless you've been around for a while. |

Hey, how did you find this place? Interested to know what brings us this recent traffic of new users. I personally found it a few months ago through the DBP WAD releases. I thought they were all really well made for only having dev times of 1 month, so I followed the breadcrumbs. I also really enjoy how most of the releases aren't just your standard vanilla techbase/hell fodder that most often gets gushed over at Doomworld. I've been playing Doom for 20 years and as much as I enjoyed the original games, I tend to really appreciate WADs that attempt to do things that are visually interesting and use more than just the standard Doom 2 textures. Plus I really like how a lot of the DBP releases are difficult without becoming pure slaughter maps. |
