Just bought it on GOG. Never played it before because reasons.
Game's fucking butt-ugly, yo. Except when it's not. Also the level design seems to yo-yo between fucking inspired to insipid wank and back again without warning.
Voxels are wonderful. I want to learn voxeling.

I bought it because people who already own One Unit Whole Blood get it for half price, but I'm still waiting for them to port it over to Linux before I play it. I'm glad Blood is finally on a modern engine; this was long overdue.

Apparently the port is a little borked here and there (according to blood-autists on youtube, at any rate). I haven't noticed anything wrong with it, but being anally retentive is a problem certain people struggle with.
Also, episode 2 is one giant fucking bush. Seriously. It is made entirely of hedge and spiders.

Also never played it. How's the gameplay? Is it satisfying to kill things?

The killing is magnificent, both the enemy roster and the weapon selection is top notch. The main problem I'm having is that there simply isn't enough shooting; I'm playing on the second lowest difficulty setting becuz this is my first playthrough and this game is a fucking *hard* motherfucker.
The levels are vast and I'm getting lost / key hunting a lot, which means there are long swathes where I'm killing jack shit. Once I know where I'm going then I'll be able to crank up the difficulty and get some truly magnificent running and gunning going.
One aspect of the port that I am super-impressed with is the difficulty sliders. You can set up a game with Ultra-violence equivalent enemy spawns but they deal I'm a Pussy weapon damage. There are a lot of hit-scan fuckheads who will ruin your day if you don't know exactly where they spawn, so it's uber-useful if you want to learn how to play at higher difficulties without having to spam the quicksave key.

do this "port" offer anything else other than windows compatibility and better resolutions? Go read the description on GOG. The new engine offers a ton of new stuff. I can't comment on how well it's been executed though because I haven't played yet.

Blood level design is fucked because some genius replaced colour coding (blue key goes in blue door, I remember where I saw blue door) with fucking eyeballs and moons and fuck knows what other shit, none of which is an aid to memory. At all. So yeah, enjoy wandering lost around your brown "fun fair" I guess.

Blood has indeed some gameplay flaws, like the fact that it's extremely difficult with hitscanner cultists that react too fast especially in harder difficulties. I can select the hardest difficulties in Doom and go through it forgetting save spamming, but I can't say the same about Blood even in the lower difficulties. However, since it's based on Build engine, it becomes fun because of all the other elements, the interactivity, real life inspired levels (like a carnival with lot's of games), the original weapons and two firing modes, great levels for exploration, underwater, jumping over ledges, some verticality and walls to break, easter eggs, etc. It has all the good elements of previous games like Duke Nukem 3D but with a brilliant horror theme, atmosphere, oh and the ambient sounds, and the player voice!
I played Blood GDX and then I purchased this one too. After Doom, this is the oldschool FPS I am so big fan of.

Yeah ripping through this again on the new port. Great game, really missed playing this but it's been years. I also don't remember anything after episode 1 but that's probably due to age. Yeah it's fucking balls hard, the only time I got lost was in some map in e3 with a dam that breaks open and causes some water to rise allowing you to proceed.

welp, that's the main campaign finished. Worse than Duke Nukem, better than Shadow Warrior seems fair. Port is pretty solid, no idea what the bitching is about (although there is a patch already out so hurrah I guess).

I'm just sticking with Blood GDX. I got a coupon for Fresh Supply, which I bought, but the game didn't even run. Probably the fault on my part because it was missing whole bunch of .dll but I really didn't want to bother. I don't care to much for the extra options they added.

let me elaborate: 1 - it is one of the most atmospheric games of all time 2 - it haves by far the most impressive and memorable levels of all Build games 3 - it is challenging as fuck, but have 5 difficult levels, so casuals and noobs can have fun too 4 - art style, texture and sprites are incredible 5 - even as a horror game, it's the most fast-paced and action-packed of the Build games 6 - it's enemy variety and design are amazing 7 - awesome weapon set 8 - caleb is fucking cool also, try this if you want some serious kick-ass maps www.moddb.com/mods/death-wish-for-blood

I can appreciate what it did for FPS games at the time, but it's just kinda meh. The interactive elements are nice and the levels are designed well, but none of the weapon are all that interesting (save for the shrink ray and the freezer), which personally I don't find them satisfying to use save for the explosive weapons. And Duke's lines/character gets really cringy at times. The game is just kinda meh (but I'm not saying it's not or can't be enjoyable). Everything Duke Nukem 3D did with it's interactivity and realistic locations and such, Half Life did better, and as build engine game it's just not as fun or memorable as Blood in my opinion.

I like this game more than Duke as well, it's just more creative in nearly every aspect.
