The doom guy was stationed in phobos as a punishment for failing to follow direct orders to fire on civilians. I think this is backwards and I think doom guy was sent to phobos BECAUSE he fired on civilians. I dont think a rational human could kill as many demons "fer gud cauze" as the doom guy does without some sort of derranged sociopathic mental disorder. Or more importantly, surrender all of his cognitive abilities to every 14 year old kid sitting comfortably in their bedroom with a keyboard and mouse in front of them.

This is a meta and an almost sjw ret-conning of the actual lore. What's next? Duke Nukem had mommy issues and battled invading aliens on an acid trip where the aliens were actually innocent latte sipping hipsters? Doomguy may not be the hero we deserve but he is the hero we need you heathen!
Also your firing on civilians idea is the very heart of the plot of The Running Man.
