Whats the best multiplayer gamemode?

Survival is obviously my favorite. It's like playing FDA style but dying doesn't necessarily mean you have to go through everything again. It's fun to spy other players and cheer for them, and even more fun to be the last remaining player and have everyone's attention. The chat is usually pleasant too, and even people who are still alive have many opportunities to make some jokes and stuff.

I feel like I never learned to fully enjoy any mode where you have to shoot other players. I think it might be because I simply don't hit the targets often enough. Running speed is one of Doom's defining features and it's awesome, but that's mainly because the monsters are much slower than you and so you have a lot of control. But when your enemies are given the same speed, it can be quite ridiculous and frustrating to be honest. Also the chat is usually rather depressing in these modes: "gg"s between the levels, an occasional insult, that's about it. It just doesn't look like people are having a good time. I'm sure that's just an illusion and they are simply too busy shooting each other to write anything, but it's still a problem for me. It would be nice to play FFA with a bunch of players all sitting in the same room, shouting loudly and stuff. That would definitely make it much more enjoyable.

If I had to rate these modes, I would put them like this I guess: FFA > Duel > CTF. FFA is the best because at least there is a lot of players running around, so I have a higher chance of killing someone. Even just shooting some rockets in random spots can work. And CTF is the worst because I don't understand the tactics at all, can't accomplish much, and feel useless for the team. In other modes at least I'm only responsible for my own success and nobody can blame me if things go wrong. Responsibility is scary.

I'd say Coop pretty much died when Survival was invented, although occasionally it can be fun to get through a ridiculous slaughter wad without worrying about dying. Again, it depends a lot on whether you have a good company.

It's a game mode, or even a genre now. In a nutshell it's played on a very large map and the players start with nothing and must search for weapons, health, armor and powerups which are all randomly placed. The playble area shrinks as the time passes and the last player alive wins. Since the last year it became a popular trend in videogames.

So battle royale = last man standing?

For me its Duel>CTF>TDM>FFA was never much fun of singleplayer so i am not really coop player, but survival can be fun sometime. Personaly i think CTF was best mode coded for doom 2. Its new school oriented and works really well and there is tons of maps for this mode.

I thought the whole deal with these old shooters was finding weapons and timing items like Rain Man or whatever the fuck, which is why everyone threw a fit over 4's loadouts. I'm also pretty sure those historical issues are just malfunctions of expected deathmatch play and wouldn't directly translate to battle royale, the same way they wouldn't directly translate to coop or ctf.

Besides, if you'd take the effort to create a game mode mod I'd imagine you'd make the concessions necessary for it to play well.
