Meanwhile, it looks like some people already expect the new game to be a mess. What a surprise! Oh, of course I can only expect the game to be the best thing ever, I should only consume hype, shut up and give them money! Also fuck off.

We all have our expectations, but until some gameplay footage is shown it's too early to draw conclusions, especially ones that are unfounded such as whatever is going in that thread.

If this game gets a quicker than expected release date, you can almost be sure that it will make extensive use of the scrapped Hell on Earth settings we saw online a few years back. Being an Earth setting, will it have to be heavily scripted and/or limited exploration wise? August’s gameplay reveal will be very interesting.

Looks awesome! Still curious about those tentacle Hell tendrils things though... they might just be the Earth version of fleshy Hell growth for decoration.

Looking at the screenshot it suggests that location wise Eternal Doom won't be a helluva lot different than Doom 2016. Instead of industrial type backdrops it will be ruined buildings instead which kinda amounts to the same. Still will be fun for a one off I'm sure.

I am super excited for Eternal, I'm impressed by how much content seems to be there. The redesigns are fantastic and the levels are immense. But they still didn't show the Arch-Vile's abilities in action .

Video helps, kindly shared at the starting point of 1:16.21 Arena Doom 2 looks pretty yo... It's good how they've given us hardcores the little touches we like such as the old style shell pic ups, the green armor is looking more green armor-y, the original monsters are more original monstery particularly the Archvile. I see they're ripping off Xenomorph Base now with the Giger stuff heh. Loved the intro vignette at the start of the Phobos level. Once again, as predicted, it is Doom 2016 just with a faster player and some added enemies and weaponry. Which is not a bad thing as Doom 2016 was a fun once off experience and this will be too. Also I am saddened by a distinct lack of boats here

While I too am saddened by the apparent lack of boats and toilets, I'd like to bring up a more serious issue, despite not being part of the target demographic myself: When it is all about the weaponry, why do they sound so weak? The plasma rifle and machine gun especially.

Art Direction
It looks like they responded to the photoshopped image with the colorful demons, because the imps are brown and spikey, with red eyes, the cacodemons are red and bleed blue, and the rest of the monsters look a 50/50 blend of the new monsters with the original 90's doom beastiary. In color, they look like the old monsters we know and love, and in their models, they look fresh and new like we saw them in Doom 2016. I think it was a cool compromise. The new models for the guns such as the Rocket Launcher and the Plasma Gun also look much closer to original guns, which I also think is a smart move. It's a bit of pandering to the original Doomers that I think people looking for a new experience might be annoyed by, but overall I think it was the best way to go.
Environments
The title Doom 2: Hell on Earth brings with it some imagery of burning cities and devastation. From what we've seen in the gameplay video, the environments includes multi-story buildings that have been ripped open, offering many different levels to jump around on, with no sacrifice to the level of detail. I think this is the significance of the new Idtech7 engine. These environments are about double the size of what you see in Doom 2016, and the attention to detail is just as pristine. Doom 2016 had some pretty huge environments in the Hell levels, but a lot of it was made up of skybox. Here, everything looks like you can interact with it. The cities also include hell-induced fleshwall influence, with tentacles and teeth growing out of the buildings. It's a bit tacky to me, as I think Pink Spaghetti™ is the go-to move for getting that nausea-inducing feeling of disturbing other-worldliness. I think it's kind of weak and uninteresting though, as its just too common in a lot of other horror-themed games. Oh Well. It also seems like the Doomslayer makes a return back to Phobos, which looks like a good fun time. I was hoping to see those famous Yangshuo mountains and overcast skies though!

From the gameplay footage that was shown I have to say that it looks pretty perfect to me! The buzz around Doom 4 didn't give me nearly as much satisfaction as seeing this game does. I gotta say that I trust this game to be really amazing y'all. What really made it for me was seeing Phobos and at that point I was really hyped!

I can't be the only person who broke out into a massive grin when I saw the BFG 600 million or whatever it was called. A BFG planetary defense gun... c'mon, that's fucking delicious. And a pretty good salute to the Big Gun in quake 2, which pleases me.
