The new Doom game attracted a ton of new players for sure, and in the past couple years I've seen a ton of Doom comic references, Doom memes, Doomslayer cosplays and props, Doom themed art, tattoos, music, and more. I see a lot of this stuff being shared on twitter, facebook, discord, and doomworld. But it doesn't seem like these are coming from the actual devoted Doom fans you would find posting for many years on Doomworld. These fan-made things are often posted by "registered to make one post" people or by someone who managed to see it and wanted to talk about it. Where is all this stuff coming from in the first place? Are these just a bunch of random isolated incidents at once? Have people always loved Doom this much?
I feel like there has got to be some congregations of Doom fans somewhere that I'm missing but I don't know where.

A couple of these things are coming from Kurashiki, she makes very detailed and professional Doom-themed art that resembles chibi and/or manga. She also contributed to the revenant meme. She's not a newb though, as she made a few great maps several years ago and makes art of some custom doom maps such as Valiant, wow.wad and that Snakes megawad.
Rottking made that revenant meme.
The FIREBLU meme pretty much comes from how it fucks up the stream quality by overflowing the bitrate.

Where is all this stuff coming from in the first place? Judging from where they source their materials from, the answer is the bins behind walmart. #hobodoom

I see a sizable amount of doom art on DeviantArt and Pixiv (and possibly Tumblr?). I also see doom enthusiasts on Twitch chats that are not on dw or any other doom forum i know. Yea, it would be nice to see where they come from.

Where is all this stuff coming from in the first place *pics* Judging from where they source their materials from, the answer is the bins behind walmart. #hobodoom Owo what a sick burn /s . Where did you dig those out? (genuine question) Like, going on google and typing in " doomguy cosplay" or " doomslayer cosplay" pops out better results, something people obviously invested time in :/ ( if I sound agitated its because I have a high respecc stat for cosplayers, they alone are getting tons of flak from the other peeps from the cosplaying community) Other than that, I myself find a lot of good shit whilst browsing tumblr. It seems like it's mostly the ones who got in from Doom 2016 or Brutal Doom do these this kind of things. It is usually the people who choose not to map or make mods (either because they can't, don't know how to, or purely don't want to), so they contribute to the community in other forms, such as drawing stuff, writing stuff, cosplaying... And a lot of them are doing a great job at that, and they don't try to meme too much, unlike hardcore mappers who mostly like to meme/shitpost a lot when they aren't mapping or something. Point being, you will find a lot of them if you know where to look. There was fanstuff even before Doom 2016 was a thing, I think I have a lot of Doomguys and Doomgals (pics and art) on some storage device, and most of them try to imitate the Doom 1 cover or Doom 2 cover. I think I even found fan-stuff from the Doom Alpha or something. Now who makes this kind of stuff? Well, besides the point above, to find who made what, a good reverse image search could help (" thanks captain obvious"). I distinctly remember following updates on this cosplayer from Doomworld who dared to combine various elements to make his own version of Doomslayer. Here is one pic of his work. There is that for now. EDIT: OH YEAH LETS NOT FORGET ABOUT MUSIC PEOPLE MAKE (sorry for the allcaps). Check the dates on these two examples. Doom content that aren't maps or mods, that concept was always a thing, heh

I'll be honest, it's a pretty well-composed image. It's just the subject is really funny-looking.

I have to imagine there are more Doomers out there than the size of the online community (communities) would lead us to believe.
Doom is the only game where I felt any compulsion to become a part of the community and even now I feel like it's just familiarity that keeps me around at this point. Even when I was much younger, checking out the communities for other games I absolutely love such as Street Fighter and the classic Mario games left me unimpressed with no desire whatsoever to be a part of them. I love these games enough to get a tattoo (if I was the tattoo type) for example, but to this day have no urge to be a part of their respective communities.
The fact that I feel this way about games that I find excellent and have spent countless hours on leads me to believe that many avid Doomers out there feel the same way about the Doom community. These days it feels more like the others than ever before anyway, so it intensifies the effect even further.

There are huge and quite fragmented Doom community on facebook and discord. I'm more familiar with facebook side of Doom fans. Some of Doom fans only reside in those groups and shares fanart, memes and cosplays only around them. I don't know if those people would get same amount of attention and comments if they would stay only in forums.
