In either case, I don't think this has been a surprising outcome. Any given community is going to have a negative reaction to people who look or behave in a way that is outside of an imaginary "acceptable" bubble. Most people aren't into psychedelics, fat women or outlandish technological speculation, so I definitely had it coming. I've learned more and more that no matter where I go, I have an iconoclastic presence and have to "reel it in" to avoid confusing or upsetting people.  |

I don't want to look it up.. haha, don't. It's my fault for following a Youtuber that was around since the platform began, who has a thick enough skin (and patron donors that vote for his next video, haha) to document less mainstream "communities" and that I always look at comment sections in said videos. The deeper reason I name dropped is that there's always something that's more abstract, unwholesome and "specific" out there that makes any of us seem "normal". If you're attracted to bigger women then you're attracted to bigger women... who cares? It's definitely not something that you should have your mental health questioned over.. I have a guilt ridden laugh every now and then.. but I don't really care what anyone's attracted to unless they wear it on their sleeve or if it involves something that'd bring harm to others. The site isn't what it used to be, but I guess this place is trying to become that. To be fair, goatlord, a lot of your posting on Doomworld is just so far out from what people are thinking about that is irrelevant. I don't join in the vocal dismissal of you and can't remember if I did when I was more active, but I don't read what you're posting on Doomworld 90% of the time. I'm only in this thread because it's a topic of interest and I didn't recognise the username.
I guess if you're going up be niche, you'll just have to accept that the decidedly streamlined hive mind over there won't have time for you and, with their mob mentality, they'll feel confident telling you so. People who think they have a moral high ground aren't much better than horrible people that are outspoken. I count myself as one of the latter.

What frustrates me is that the 900th post about "Favorite Doom levels?" will get more traction, and be taken far more seriously, than someone trying to discuss an aspect of Doom that is rarely, if ever, explored.

Linguica told me that the quality of my chocolate starfish would actually force him to unban me and give me ownership of doomworld. Knowing that if that were to happen he would be banned instantly, he apologized and said that I still can't come back. But he does send me $200.00 USD every Tuesday to keep the starfish photos coming. Not a bad gig for a little sidescratch.

Is there something bad about wanting to share personal events and thoughts with other people? Do we want everyone slightly unusual to keep their stuff to themselves? Isn't that kind of cruel? And won't that result in a very boring forum? If you want to share something like this, be ready to be ridiculed. That shit is not normal. If you only want to hear positive things about yourself then go to Facebook or some shit. I'm in the position that both of these are valid. Yes, there should be a place for people to share this kind of personal stuff and yes, people should be allowed to disagree with it or question it. Being a total asshole is one thing, but not understanding or even criticizing something is a perfectly natural response. If you are afraid of the possibility of this kind of response, think twice about sharing, but if it doesn't bother you, you should be allowed to have at it. |
