When I'm mapping I tend to gravitate towards listening to the Quake and Half life soundtracks, particularly these two: The slow rise until that distortiony-sonar drop is a masterclass in sound mixing. In my opinion the best song in Half life, there's just something about it that I just can't explain. There's also this remix of the Camanis theme from Tyrian |

Will definitely use this in a Doom map for sure someday I wish it was easier to find midis for the DS-era Castlevania games, tons of stuff that'd be cool for Doom maps. |

There's this game some friends bought for me a while back for 1 (one) USD, which not only turned out to be a great shmup/bullet hell (if you ignore some of the bad visuals), but also had a fucking AMAZING soundtrack that everyone should go check out

I used to play this game all the time when I was in middle school, I couldn't think of a more perfect menu theme for such a setting. I would often play the French, call my leader Louis Riel, give the natives guns, and tell the Brits to screw off. |

Here's a great rendition of Castlevania's Bloody Tears:
I think Cv Judgment has the best in game rendition in which it's used as Carmilla's theme. Some others are great quality but less gothic sounding. CvII:Simon's Quest for the NES was the first time I heard it, very gothic sounding, and the first Cv game I owned. There's also some goofy acapella on tube. I also like Judgment's version of Mad Forest (used as Sypha's theme). I think that one originated in CvIII: Dracula's Curse.
