Confused by the lyrics of some song? Ask for help here!
I recently rediscovered Heaven And Hell by Black Sabbath and it's been blowing my mind for the last few days. It's kind of an epic song and you can understand it in many different ways, however my favorite interpretation is that it's about everything trying to control you in this chaotic world, be it governments, corporations, religions, strangers, or even your parents and friends ("The world is full of kings and queens who blind your eyes and steal your dreams"). But who is "the dancer"? What is "Love can be seen as the answer, but nobody bleeds for the dancer" about? I'm a little lost here.

I love Black Sabbath. They are my absolute favorite band.
I always viewed "the dancer" in this song as representing a fool, a jester...somebody who puts on a show for the approval of others.
"Love can be seen as the answer" You see the approval of others as the answer to all of your problems, but...
"Nobody bleeds for the dancer" In the end, the people you are putting on a show for to garner their approval (or love) might appear to give a shit about you...but if push comes to shove, they aren't ever sacrificing as much for you as you have for them.
That's my two cents.

Oh, I like your interpretation, it goes along with the rest of the song well. Thanks!

There's this song by Jawbreaker called "Jet Black", it's an atmospheric, longing breakup song sung from the point of a guy, who's neighbor girlfriend's breaking up with him because of his negative vibes and making him even more miserable to the point of suicide. A couple of lyrics always confused me though, despite understanding the rest of the song: "If you don't remind me, I won't forget you" and "Funny like a funeral", a little help? The band is known for making absurd/backwards lyrics like these, but these two just puzzle the hell out of me.

I'm not sure what they mean by "If you don't remind me, I won't forget you." It might help if you could also provide the surrounding verses so we can see how the sentence is used in context. "Funny like a funeral" sounds like an intentional oxymoron. Funerals are often very sad and leave little room for humor. So to say "Funny like a funeral" is to say that something is not funny at all. Another example is to say someone is "as sharp as a bowling ball." Bowling balls are obviously very smooth, which is to say that someone is quite dull or dumb.

Old Skin by Acid Bath
"WE smoke the toenails and hair of the wiseman under a BLACKGOD's thumb we dance like painted puppets she bleeds orgasm in techni-color an ocean of alien mystery we eat the wiseman's eyes for sight that we might see the darkness if we kill the lights fast enough we eat the brain and pray that our eyes can open wide enough we burn the dry shell, a funeral chant the pulse quickens and we dance as the blossoms fall a scattering of dust to the winds this celebration of old skin I feel every flower that is screaming to consume you the earth and sky your cradle the earth and sky entomb you so is the way of forever teeming with simple cruelties beatings in cold rooms hands and head not found"
Any ideas at all?!

If you don't remind me, I won't forget you. If you don't ask, I won't upset you." Thanks for the second one BTW.

@joe-ilya: My take on that line is that it's being delivered in the same vein as the "funny like a funeral" one. He doesn't like her, so where she tries to keep herself in his life (i.e. remind him), he's actively going to push her out and forget all about her. He's probably happy to remember her in her absence, but doesn't want to deal with her up close. TOS: Well, as a fan of melodic death metal, I'm used to indecipherable lyrics along a theme, rather than explicitly saying something. As such, your lyrics there give me the impression of seeking a greater awareness (all this stuff about eyes) through a, possibly metaphorical, ritual (dancing, scattering of dust, consumption/smoking) that symbolises how life and death are out of our power (the five lines after "this celebration of old skin) and almost incomprehensibly callous (the last three lines).
