Hmm, it's kind of hard for me to talk about editing and design in depth I guess. I think I don't have that many fleshed out theories in my head, instead there is a bunch of abstract preferences, which I can't normally explain and I'm probably not even consciously aware of. For me mapping is not a science at all, instead it's a chaotic process where the end result mostly depends on random ideas popping out of nowhere uncontrollably. A lot of my best designs happen by accident. Vanilla crashes if the player stands in this spot? Okay, let's put some decorations there to block him. Oh wait, they actually look really cool in that place and the way they limit maneuverability is so unique! That's how mapping works for me. So unfortunately I'm not well suited for extended discussions I suppose. Sometimes I can try to make generalized statements but I don't even fully believe in them myself.
It seems I follow the memfy methodology. Don’t stop posting about Doom theory 40, I love to read your posts and all of the Doom mechanical talk of others and such, but to me it sits in my subconscious and manifests itself in the editor in the ways Memfis has described, accidentally or chaotically. But that’s the way I like it, it’s also the way I write music, even the way I built a wooden crate the other day. Subconsciousally chaotic, sounds like a good band name, or map name or some such.

I come here because I love talking to the diverse personalities here.. basically if you gather everyone that was banned from or doesn't fit in a mainstream forum, sometimes you can combine them altogether and make a unique forum with them if you're lucky you can create just the right "toxic forum". ;p
This place never was doom orientated for me. It was my way of staying in touch with people like Vordakk, to be able to do tinfoil hatting of my own and still being able to read RUSH's posts without seeing them through the lense of some SJW's multi quoting "conserva pwnage" breakdown scheme. Basically a place where everyone is responsible for his own post with threads that don't grind to a halt because someone said something stupid.

Well I would like to make an exclusive development thread here for a project of mine. Not sure which one though so I'll probably make a poll if+when I decide to. I just need to make one more map of the both of them. The one I'm thinking about most needs one more map since that's when the gameplay changes somewhat and the WAD is also themed around uh tinfoilery dark conspiratorial plots of sorts.
Since memfy baby asked so nicely about my music I'm going to make you all suffer. I pretty much play guitar and things get structured and accidents happen along the way to make a song, similar to mapping I’d say. I just write music though, no words because I sing real bad Here is this 3 song video from an open mic over 10 years ago with my then bass player and Kurt the rockabilly drummer from WIld Turkey who was host. First song is blues rock and is called Scotch Infested, or simply Scotch, though back in the day it was bourbon so thus Bourbon Infested. It's the first song I'm aware of in the history of mankind where the title has changed due to the change in alcohol taste by the songwriter, so check it as it's historical, cunts. 2nd is the first song I wrote way back in 1998 and is guitar pop named Stick Deinen Kopf in den Hinden. This is apparently german for stick that cord up your arse. It's from the Bottom episode where Eddie is reading the VCR instructions. 3rd is rock/metal/surf? and my magnum opus called Midajah-Vu. That's pronunced Mee-day-jah-vu. BTW if you've ever wondered how to pronunce my handle, it's GLEN-ZEEN-YO. Comes complete with obligatory guitar solo and breakdown Pearl Jam Alive style at the end or your money back. Once again it's all instrumental:
If you could stand that then here's another song (lo-fi recording) called Shades:

And the always awesome end jam song, this one is called Highway Fantastic and is heavier for you metal dudes, once again apologies it's in lo-fi but I think gives it an authentic 70s flavour:
This song just grew naturally from the drummer tinkering around at the beginning of the recording. Usually I'll hear something in the sound and/or the rythmn and give the drummer the nod to continue on and also mouth silently to my bass palyer the key we'll be jamming in. I love body signals while playing/creating, it's f'n sexy. And I will always, and I mean ALWAYS attempt to start and finish the jam as if it were a planned out piece. That way if you nail it you have a brand new work of craft that's pretty much the end product. It's the music version of speedmapping as it were.

I would be remiss if I didn't mention Dela Wo, an interesting spirit who used to inhabit our jam sessions. He was the only one of us who would dare use the voice, and make up nonsense on top of it. These are some of Dela Wo's best jams that I had the privilege of producing him on (lo-fi warning):
Dela Wo is a leftie, Hendrix style. He made this song, UFOs To Distant Planets, off the cuff playing upside down and singing whatever shit entered his mouth. UFOs to Distant Planets
UFOs to Distant Planets contains the immortal lyrics "Just like Marge, remember Marge, such hideous hair... I can't believe Homer fucks her.... she's not bad, her body's alright. She must attract a lot of flies, half of Homer's paycheck goes toward Marge's hair!"
And here we have to help Dela Wo along the blues like the pros we are. Me on bass for some reason, our mate Tone on slide guitar, my bass player on keyboard and Dela Wo doing his thang.

And one last one from my dude Shane Kenny. I used to have this dude over smoken pipes with the brah, and I'd get him to play me this song on the acoustic on repeat until I fell asleep, and I let this cunt let himself out when he was done. He thought I was god because I can play the first five albums of Metallica and Voodoo Chile by Jimi, but I thought he was god because he wrote this song, with a brain injury to boot....
I'm becoming bored with internet communities. I still love doom but internet communities are getting tired for me. It seems like the Doom community is bound together more by the community and less for Doom, if that makes sense.
I'm always interested in reading more and more about editing and design but it seems like the amount of people still deeply interested in all of that are a pretty small minority anymore. There's plenty who have some small feedback to pitch in to my threads here and there but not as many willing to get deep into the research and slow thinking of it or entertain unusual ideas.
There has been times where I wanted to unplug my router because I find it much easier to talk to people naturally in my real life than it is to post in the presence of internet strangers, which used to be the complete opposite for me. Daily, I'm posting and reading Doom threads where so few people actually want to entertain the actual topic or answer the questions being asked. But when it's the opportunity to talk about yourself or about another person or group of people, the thread blows up real fast. (This goes for here and Doomworld)
I'm not saying I dislike you guys or anything, but I do wonder what it is that keeps drawing me back to here even though I rarely get anything positive out of it.
I think, in cases like this and where Memfis loses interest, you'd actually warm to the community a bit with absence. Overexposure kind of lets all the more "social media" aspects of being in an internet community float to the surface for you, as that's what you see daily. Where I've been unable to really participate in the last couple of years, I can gloss over all of that and just pay attention to the big draws (or perhaps not, as I'm here commenting on "the community" rather than Doom now). Personally, I find there's a bit of a chicken-and-egg thing where mapping and participating online are concerned. As I map more and get more into it, I want to talk about it more, so I get online. However, getting online and talking about it also makes me want to map more. Playing the game falls by the wayside in either scenario, but we're mostly busy adults, so I guess we have to take what we've got time for these days.
The bread memes where specifically about Rush. Quite some time ago, Megalyth was talking about how nice a new chair was, So soft it felt like italian bread. I can't remember what caused it, but Rush started talking about how bread was unhealthy and possibly cancerous. Thats where the bread memes started kicking in, with rush gone, there isn't really a reason to continue them.
You're trying to say you like DOS better than me, right?
