Now that the news of BL3 are out (and the BL1/2 remasters got me back playing again)
What's your take on the series? Love it? Hate it?
I realize now I hate Gearbox but fucking love Borderlands. The only good thing they did.

I beat the first one when it was free for a weekend long ago but I was never really enraptured with the series. Second one was fun but I'm not into open worlds and randomized gear in an FPS very much. I like it more than I could ever say I don't like it though. I do really like the creative designs like the robots and world building though.

Suffering past the first game I thought it was boring and unbearably bland. Never got through the second one for more than a few hours. It's not funny, only obnoxious and I couldn't stand it anymore.

Ho ho no. You don't get to rape two beloved franchises and then get an invitation to my pool party. Because you are a fucking rapist.
Gearbox burn in hell.

I liked the first Borderlands. It was different at the time, and the some of the humor in the first game worked for me. I liked the vast barren expanses, sometimes it was just fun to run through them and look around. The progression felt decent, too. You seemed to get weapons that you needed when you needed them. You felt powerful as a protagonist. The plot was kinda whatever, and some of the bosses were not all that interesting, but it was a net positive for me.
The second game tried to take everything from the first game and just amp it way up. The humor was just annoying, way too overdone. No more vast barren expanses, everything was packed with stuff, so the atmosphere and mood was altered for the worse. The weapons came constantly, so much so that they became boring, and what's worse is that the enemies were always precisely leveled to be a little too hard, even with that shiny new weapon you just got. It became a grind. The whole thing felt like a millenial's wet dream, an ADHD nightmare, everything was in your face all the time, too many clashing colors, a billion items constantly needing to be picked up, endless fetch quests.
I never messed with the other games in the series. After part 2 I was done.

Borderlands was a slog to be honest, you get half way through and it becomes obvious they just gave up and made repetitive lame *quests* of "find a and b and c now move to D to find a b and c again", the loot became valueless and you ended up with one decent weapon and nothing else.
Borderlands 2 was the EXACT same in this regard but now with absolutely insufferable characters all over, I hate every last one bar like 2 (don't even get me started on Tiny Tina, FUCK NO that character was designed from an obnoxious peadophile's dream I swear). Then they tried to be funny by being loud and meme filled, God left at that point.
Problem is the fucking thing is one of the very few co-op games out, motherfuckers LOOOVE tacked on multiplayer but not a decent co-op game anymore (and by motherfuckers I mean executives, what actual person doesn't like Co-op?) so you'll end up having to play shit like Borderlands.
