What is your definition of a great map? Visually striking? Flowing gameplay? First location is an L room, more if you consider the cliff. Second is room filled with evenly spaced pillars. In classic idtech1 engine, this will look bland. You can boost eye candy using a modern engine. You'd probably get better gameplay studying an ant hill.
