One thing that is an interesting yet inconsistent affair is getting a job (especially in the UK), I don't quite understand it.
I have one now (I begin on the 1st of October, permanent position too) but the quest to get one was so bizarre that it was incredible.
At first I applied to jobs I was over qualified for (retail work, McDonald's, factory grunt ect) under the premise that I'd be more than likely hired, turns out that you can't be too cocky because after landing a few interviews I didn't get the "grunt" work, odd.
Eventually I decided to start applying to things that I had the necessary skills for (I'm a fully qualified light vehicle mechanic after all) and still didn't land a job (didn't even get interviews).
I then applied for a role that I'm semi qualified for, a parts department in an agricultural firm (Know a lot about vehicles and parts, fuck all about farming) and absolutely slaughtered the first interview, murdered the second interview and had a third where they just had me turn up and accept the job.
This job is incredibly stable, local and well paying, everyone I know is terrified of their job's stability... How the fuck I land this? If I don't fuck this up I'm actually set for life, how the fuck did I pull this off? How comes I can't land work as a mindless grunt but can land this?
What is the world of work? What is this hot mess? lmao

Work doesn’t make sense at the best of the times... in the trade shop I run I can quite literally call some of the clientele cunts and how certain products of ours are just shit and they keep coming back for more heh. I think it’s the honesty factor. About you not getting grunt work that’s a little easier to explain: employers can’t push you around and pay you shit wages as you seem too qualified to take that crap, or you’re too qualified and you’ll get bored and become a shit worker quickly. Congrats on getting an awesome job that suits you bro, you’re one of the lucky ones! Remember bad or boring times will come as the always do, keep in mind your previous struggles when those times arrive to see you through.
