It depends. I've seen anonymous posting work well in comment sections on various other websites before. Actually, some of the better posts I've read have come from "guest" accounts.
Does Proboards require verification for guest posts? This would make all the difference. I've seen that before, where you go to leave an anonymous reply and it says "waiting for moderator approval."
That would protect the boards from waking up one morning to find pictures of dead people all over the place, etc. On the other hand, the mods would still have to look through all that dumb shit to try and find which guest comments are actually genuine and which ones are spam. So in that sense, it would still be possible for a spam bot to troll the admin staff, just not the everyday user as well. Of which there are only like, two anyway. Lol
The verification captcha system should catch and stop all the spam bots. And honestly, if a human wants to maliciously post, they could easily do so by registering anyway. However, it would be quicker and therefore more tempting to troll as a guest perhaps.
To clarify, when I was referring to "moderator approval" I was only suggesting it for guests. Not registered members. As an incentive to create an account, but maybe it's not necessary. I haven't seen any ProBoards spamming before either. Granted, the spam could have been cleaned up by the mods before anyone had a chance to read it. Hmm...
How about that shoutbox at least? That would be kinda sweet I think. I don't see the harm in that.
In light of the new doom metal music thread, I was thinking maybe a new subforum dedicated to music didcussion might be cool. It seems like music threads get a lot of activity and seeing as there are so many different genres and subgenres of music, having a separate subforum for it would take care of some clutter.
Maybe even an "Arts and Entertainment" subforum where we can discuss any kind of artform. Be it film, music, artwork, etc...
So we can't even have cancerous discussions about politics anymore?? What's the point of this place then? :]
The bootyass forums, also hosted by proboards has been shutdown recently, which raises some concerns about the likelihood that proboards could shut this place down too if the forum continues on the path its going.
If this place is consistently used as an outlet to discuss stuff that wouldn't go over well in other communities and not anything else, then this place can be perceived as a malicious hate group disguised as a place for Doomers. We all know this isn't the case.
I'm sure you guys have more stuff to talk about other than what what's unpopular about your opinions. Youre still entitled to have them here, and you can talk about them too, but we will need your cooperation in discussing non-racy subjects here too so we don't look like a bunch of assholes, if that makes any sense.
40oz And who knows, maybe I'm wrong. But that's extremely unlikely because I'm always right.
Are specific types of wads also banned from this board?
I'm not in charge of everything, but I've been granted moderator status for the off-topic forum. So take that with a grain of salt.
For now, I'm going to say no, there aren't any types of wads that are 'banned' from this forum. This site doesn't have an uploading service so you can only upload them elsewhere and link to them here. However, ive heard rumors that some wads contained files that fucked with peoples computers. I dont think anyone approves of anyone using wads to tamper with other peoples operating systems, so if that becomes the case we will kick your ass out of here because that's not cool.
Not banned doesn't necessarily mean you have our seal of approval. If your wad sucks, we will give you a relentless verbal beating until you make something better, but arbitrary action will only be taken within reason.
What do you like about status updates? I always thought they were annoying. Ive seen people say they dont want to clog the forum up with threads about pointless stuff but I've always felt it made more sense to do that than have this specialize location right in your face where people just post about stuff with no intention of talking to other people.
I'd personally prefer a "Vikkazda's random thoughts" thread instead.
I agree with 40 on this one. If I want to gaze upon the magnificence of spastics screaming banalities into the void, well, then I guess I'll go to twitter.
Honestly fucking hate that shit. 'Describe events in less than 140 characters...' wtf why? Why would people willingly restrict themselves like that? Is it like buying space in a newspaper to tell the world that Granny is fucking dead and you have a Volvo for sale, knocking out unnecessary vowels because you are charged $ per letter?
Encouraging people to think in soundbites is retarded and it produces retarded conversations and retarded people. And if it can be said in the space of a single sentence then it probably wasn't worth saying in the first place.
