Heh, thank you glen for the thread. I never knew there are enthusiastic football to talk with in these video game community until this WC. Cheers! 2:25 pm local time at Moscow, and the entire city is now red white checkered with Croatia fans! Seriously, there like one per square centimeter. Must be very proud. On the other side, I have to squint to see a French fan. They'll be the ones flying the white flag reversing out of Moscow.

Heh nice, I didn’t know the French were so passionate about their football to set the streets alight.
In final news, 10 minutes in and Croatia showing balls of steel yo. They’ve had the ball almost exclusively and close to the goal, France happy to sit back for now.
18’ update: France score from a set piece! That Uruguyan Antoine Griezmann with the sublime free kick and it’s put into the back of the net with an own goal deflection by Super Mario Mandzukic! Oh no Croatian fans, can they come back from here? They’ve conceded first in each of their 3 knockout matches prior to this game so I wouldn’t put it past them.

28’ update: Ivan Perisic with a fantastic goal after 5 touches from a Croatian set piece free kick and the stadium has come to life! 1-1 and a final befitting this tournament is shaping up so far. Croatia is looking irrepressible and there’s a feeling in the air that suggests that this is their night.
34th minute: we’re going to VAR for possible handball by Croatia!
...and the penalty has been given! Controversy in Moscow, the ref checked that umpteen times! If it was that borderline he shouldn’t have given it...
Antoine Griezmann steps up to the penalty spot for the French. And he scores France 2-1. That’s sucked the life out of the non French fans in the stadium... hope that’s not the decisive goal, still a long time to go.

Half time and France 2-1. You still feel that Croatia have another goal or two in them, while France is content to sit back and take the cheap options that come their way. While none would be begrudge France for playing to win this way, this team will get love from none regarding their football style which is reminiscent of the successful Italian teams, minus the dirtyness and flair and with added fabric softener. But it’s a classic game so far, that age old battle between positive and negative.

52 minute update: A group of dickheads have just run onto the pitch in what can only be assumed is some kind of impotent protest of a political nature. Send them to Siberia Vlad! Play held up for a minute or so just as Croatia were building momentum yet again. This final has had everything so far.
updated: Fuck me those dickheads were Pussy Riot, how did they even get into the stadium?

59’ update: Paul Pogba with a goal for France! 3-1 and surely Croatia can’t cone back from here, can they?
65’ update: no they cannot. Kylian Mbappe with a powerful strike to make it 4-1. Game over and the French will enjoy the final 25 minutes here. I can smell the champagne being popped in Paris from here.
69’ minute update: Hugo Lloris with a catastrophic mistake as Super Mario robs him of the ball and puts it into the net. 4-2 and surely not, Croatia?

That's got to be the best world cup final in some time. I always fancied France's side of the draw against Croatia's "easy side" in the final, whoever the teams ended up being. Good job France! That clanger by Lloris was hilarious, but affordable when you're three goals up. Well fought by Croatia, but a bit of bad luck and some strong opposition was too much to overcome.

Full time update: France win 4-2 to become two time two time champions of the World and fulfill the promise of their current golden generation, the most expensive team at this World Cup worth over one billion euros collectively. Lloris’ mistake caused the French to play more cautiously in the last 20 minutes and to put a lid on their premature celebrations as Croatia always looked a danger throughout to do the unthinkable. Hats off to Croatia, they deserved the trophy and have fought like warriors, but the French deserved it too and played smartly, albeit at times ugly, for the duration of the tournament. It was truly a wonderful final befitting of the tournament it was borne of. Already looking forward to 2022 in Qatar, a World Cup that will be played in the same zone as this one. I’ll be doing what I can to be in Brazil to be able to enjoy the month long festive atmosphere that occurs there when a World Cup is happening and to watch matches at a decent time on the beach drinking heavily with my brother in law. Thanks again for all those who participated by posting or following this thread. This is the cunt signing off from my sofa at 3am, we now return you to your regular Dooming activities.

I was cheering for Croatia. Oh well. I'm glad that it wasn't only the two first goals which settled the match.
