Uh, i went to watch the French instead. I miss the Euro 2016 France, at least when they still had creative players like Payet, because this just looks dull as hell. Denmark seems to have the "don't lose" goal inside too, so maybe i'll consider switching channels (though i don't know if any of you Australians have any spirit left after the Peru lead ).

We got the spirit alright, check out the crowd singing loudly in the stadium and cunts like myself watching our team play like shit at 1am on a work day.
So now it’s 2-0 Peru and Van Marwijk only now brings on Tim Cahill and Daniel Arzani? The whole of the country has only been calling for it for a week... this coaching game must the last refuge of the dumb cunts of the world.
20 minutes in and while it’s over for the Aussies, Arzani has already made all of the difference for us. This young kid just makes everyone else around him look and play better whilst he himself looks like an emotionless video game character on no clipping mode while doing top tier footballer things. Onya Bert ya dumb cunt, holding him back and keeping him injury free so that ya fucken thug son in law can pick him up fresh for his shitty Dutch side that he will be coaching at after the World Cup.
Full time update: 2-0 Peru the final score. Australia played quite well honestly and had their fair share of shots on goal, however the Peruvians only needed 2 shots and they made them count and that’s football. See you again in 4 years cunts, provided we don’t fuck up qualifying as we almost did this time. I’m excited for Daniel Arzani, that kid has a hell of a future.
Even if the Aussies had won it would’ve mattered none, as Denmark and France have played out the first goalless draw at this World Cup and I’m not shocked. I won’t even catch those highlights, I’m sure it was a turgid and tepid affair. Here’s hoping the French and Danes next opponents knock those boring cunts out of the tournament at the first hurdle.
Also one last big fuck off and fuck you to Bert Van Marwijk, you won’t be missed cunt.... Aussie Aussie Aussie! Oi Oi Oi!

That fucking Portugal-Iran game was atrocious. Great from a dramatic POV, but horrendous to actual sit through. Particularly in the second half when the Iranians got all pissy and stooped to the Portugese level of behaviour. I actually think Ronaldo deserved no booking at all for shoving past thatIranian, as he was deliberately blocking his movement off the ball in a way that wa straight-up cheating. Of course, making a meal of getting shoved past is almost more important to a lot of players than winning the ball at this point, so I guess it's to be expected. This tournament has seen some suspect officiating, but I think last night was the worst of it from a neutral perspective, as it properly dragged the game out and achieved very little.
I've been keeping up with the highlights of everything I've not watched still... I think there's some real competition for goal of the tournament here in this group stage and there's been some games that look (and sound, on paper) like they've been fantastic. France and Denmark seem to have set the tone for the rest of the tournament once the group stage is over, though. Things will get pretty cagey from here on out.

Thanks Aisleen for your contributions, it’s great to have company son! Take it from here for me if you can for the next two matches in less than two hours time... I’ve got four hours to get sleep before opening my store so I can go to work and continue to build boats in Doombuilder. @phobus I fear you’re right bro about the upcoming caginess as this is typically the time of the tournament that teams slow down and get serious. Oh well it was fun while it lasted!

Nigeria 1 v 2 Argentina: Dramatic, but what is left is negatives. Where was VAR when the ball touched Rojo's arm? Ah FIFA, you never change. Valiant effort from Nigeria. I didn't watch the other match, but apparently Croatia's substitutes can even beat Iceland

Argentina have spared themselves eternal shame and stepped up when it counted. Wonderfully typical Messi goal by Messi to open his account for the tournament and Rojo finished well to win the game. Must have been an enthralling match watching live. Diego Armando Fucking Maradona was in particularly fine form in the stands: Robbie Williams: that is how you give the finger with passion you limp wristed git. Iceland made a decent fist of it against Croatia's subs as Aisleen accurately put it, but ultimately to no avail. I guess the Icelander genetics just weren't enough against the Croatians (hi again hardcoregamer ). Perisic's late late winner was magnificent. Croatia look to be a tough team to play and will certainly give teams headaches going forward in the elimination phase. This is how things stand in the Officially A Little Crappy Doomer Boards World Cup Chart: (Chart updated below) Half of the bracket is now sorted and the next two days of competition will continue to separate the boys from the men.

Day 14 of competition coming up which will feature the Group E & F final group stage matches. Group F games will be up first, South Korea v Germany and Mexico v Sweden. All 4 teams here are eligible for progression or elimination which will make for fascinating football. Here are the qualification scenarios from The World Game website once again as they did such a fine job yesterday:
- Mexico will qualify with a win or draw against Sweden. They can also move on with a loss to the Swedes if Germany lose to or draw with South Korea. - Germany will progress if they beat South Korea by two goals. They will also go through with any win should Mexico beat Sweden, or via a better goal difference with a victory over South Korea even if Sweden beat Mexico. - Sweden can qualify with a win over Mexico and a Germany loss to South Korea. If both Sweden and Germany win it is possible for the Swedes to advance on goal difference. - Despite two losses South Korea still have a slim chance of advancing, but they would need to beat Germany and hope that both Sweden lose to Mexico and that goal difference goes their way.
The Group E games are Switzerland v Costa Rica and SiberiaSerbia v Mothafucken Cunten Brazil. All but Costa Rica can qualify, and I wouldnt put it past Brazil to fuck it all up here:
- Wins or draws for Brazil against Serbia and Switzerland against Costa Rica will send both through. - Serbia must beat Brazil to qualify but a draw could see them through if the Swiss are beaten by Costa Rica by more than one goal.

South Korea 2 vs 0 Germany: Well, this is a stunner. While Germany's football this World Cup is hardly mesmerizing (actually near opposite of that), but its the freakin former champions vs an Asian team that's at the bottom of the board. Throughout 90 minutes, Die Mannschaft was just clueless on how to get the ball in the net. When they did have a chance, the hands of an excellent Cho Hyun-woo denied them. Ultimately, the Germans went down crashing after 90+3 opener. Neuer thought this was Futsal, and that he could help with "powerplay" by going up and show off his non-goalkeeper skills. But nope, he lost the ball easily, leading to a pass to Son in front of an empty net: its 2-0. *Brazilian joy intensifies*
Mexico 0 vs 3 Sweden: lol i don't know what happened. I mean, i didn't watch the match, but Mexico specializes in counter-attacks! How could their defense be so flimsy to the point that even a normally not so great at attacking team like Sweden can score not 1, not 2 but 3 goals! They better thank South Korea after this!

Is it Christmas already? Have the Germans truly been eliminated? Thank you Aisleen for your words! Watching Brazil v Siberia now but I can’t stop watching the last 6 minutes of the South Korea v Germany game... not only have the Teutonic Plague fallen to the curse, it’s also the first time in their history that they’ve been eliminated at the group stage. Amazing stuff! Sweden showed some credentials against Germany and today’s 3-0 win against Mexico, wonder which one gets Brazil? Found out that after yesterday’s game, Diego Armando Fucking Maradona was not allowed to leave the stadium until he had a medical clearance... is the Hand of God going to pass before our very eyes at this World Cup? Cocaine is a hell of a drug kids, stick to caffeine.

Brazil up 2-0 with 10 minutes to go and doing it comfortably in second gear against Serbia, although the Serbs did have a spell about ten minutes ago where they threatened to score. 1-1 in the Swiss v Costa Rica match and on current results Serbia is making the short drive back home with Brazil and Switzerland finishing first and second respectively in their group. This will bring about yet another Brazil v Mexico knockout clash and The Swiss will face Sweden. Mexico run hot and cold but are always a dangerous team for Brazil. Although they have never defeated the Seleção at a World Cup, in this tournament nothing is shocking so Brazil will have stay focused and keep a level head. Vai Brasil!
Full time update: stayed 2-0 for Brazil v Serbia, 2-2 draw for Switzerland and Costa Rica.

Kinda sad to see many great Brazilian players getting injuries tho, especially Marcelo's case. Filipe Luis didn't really do a strong performance, a lot to worry for the defense.

Time to go to the Official Doomer Boards Knockout Phase Chart once more: updated below
On to Day 15 action, the halfway point of the tournament, and the final group stage matches featuring Groups G & H. Up first will be the Group H matches of Senegal v Colombia (note the spelling @contracommando , the way your pic spells it implies the good students from the university of the same name are not fulfilling their scholarly duties) and Japan v Poland. All teams alive except for Poland, qualifying scenarios by the good journos at The World Game once more:
- Japan and Senegal will advance with draws against Poland and Colombia respectively. Should Senegal and Japan both draw with the same score, they will be split by yellow cards: Senegal have five to Japan's three. - Colombia will progress if they beat Senegal and a draw will suffice for them if Poland beat Japan.
In the later matches of Group G will be the likely laid back encounter of Belgium v England and Tunisia v Panama who have nothing to play for progression wise, just pride. No qualification scenarios for these, only the order of first and second to be decided by Belgium and England.

Senegal 0 vs 1 Colombia: I feel bad for Senegal, as they brought so many colors to this World Cup. But there can only be 2 teams in, and while they played better for most of the match, Senegal dropped their next round ticket to Mina's header. Japan 0 vs 1 Poland: All welp, the Japaneses are in despite losing to a eliminated Poland thanks to less yellow cards. I didn't watch this tho Next matches don't matter much, but i'll still be watching. Hopefully the England vs Belgium match won't be a scam like the Denmark vs France.

It’s a scam so far. Tough luck to Senegal, what a shitty way to be eliminated. Still it’s better than not having your ball drawn out of a pot, which would have been the last resort, just because of having the same amount of yellow cards as another team.
update: Belgium score! 1-0! I hope it stays that way, I want England to get Colombia next.

England 0 vs 1 Belgium: It was actually a pretty open match. Too bad there were not much goals in this, but the one Belgium goal is a good one. Decent. Not gonna comment on the other match, but yay 2 Panama goals That settles the Group stage folks, an enjoyable ride if you ask me. Time for things to get serious!

As Aisleen has mentioned it is serious business time now peoples. Knockout Phase aka Thunderdome as in each match from here on in two teams enter and only one team leaves. Chart time: Day 16 is a rest day, and thank fuck for that as I will still be drunk tomorrow morning I'm sure. Day 17 brings us the next lot of action and commencing the Round of 16 matches will be France v Argentina and Uruguay v Portugal. Some mouth watering matchups on paper, here's hoping they deliver to the standards that this World Cup has brought to us so far. Thoughts on some teams going forward: Brazil face Mexico for the umpteenth time in Knockout phase action. Mexico have yet to beat Brazil at a World Cup, but there's a first time for everything. Brazil are looking fantastic this year though and it's easily the best side they've produced since their last World Cup victory in 2002. Belgium are looking a serious threat to take home all the marbles, looking forward to an expected Quarter Final match between them and Brazil. Having lacklustre performances so far in this Cup, Spain seem to have all the luck with an easy first up Knockout match against Russia. That is until they come up against Croatia in the Quarters. Croatia also look a decent threat to win the whole tournament. England look to have a decent shot as any time in their history as their half of the bracket has been kind to them, if they can get past Colombia that is. So let's watch them fuck it all up!

Well, I've not been too impressed with the football in the last couple of matches. I am, however, incredibly happy with this:
The knockouts are lined up to have potential, so I'll keep an eye on them. The joke here in England is that "IT'S FUCKING COMING HOME LADS!" because it was an "easy" group followed by the "Easier side of the draw"... although we fully expect to get dumped out unceremoniously by Colombia because that is the true English way. Large sections of our media seem to think that whoever wins from Sweden and Switzerland should pose no obstacle and seem to be talking in earnest about who we're up against in the semi final... which is mental, obviously, because the general feel is it's quarter finals at best for us most of the time.

If teams have made it this far, they’re no joke english pressers... except for Russia of course! France v Argentina up now, let’s see if they can play with urgency and put on a decent show. This is from what I would call the tougher quarter of the knockout draw with these two alongside Uruguay and Portugal as potential quarter finalists in this section.
13’ update: France penalty already! Griezmann puts France up 1-0! Someone check Maradona’s heart rate...
41' update: Angel Di Maria with a thunderbolt strike into the top corner of the net, 1-1! Argentina have finally come to play and it's game on.
48' update: Almost instantly after the break and Argentina have come out full of beans, goal to Mercado and it's 2-1 Argentina. Where have these Argies been the whole cup? France looking shellshocked at having to play for once in this tournament.
57' update: France back in it with a wonderful goal by Pavard, 2-2... is this tennis?
64' update: Mbappe of France to make it 3-2! I'm loving it and with the exception of the penalty, the other 4 goals have been a real treat! How many more?
68' update: Mbappe again to make it 4-2 France! That's gotta be it for Argentina.
92’ update: Aguero heads it for 4-3. Is there still time for another Argentina goal?
Full time update: not quite... Argentina close with a last gasp desperation effort in Fergie time, but no cigar. France with an enthralling win to knock out Argentina and advance to meet the winner of Uruguay v Portugal which is on in a couple of hours time.
And thus ends this era of Argentina you would feel, an era that began back in the early 2000s as most of this team came up through the national youth ranks together winning numerous junior tournaments, but ultimately failing to fulfill their vast potential for the senior side. Argentina’s prospects look bleak for the foreseeable future as the quality they used to have in producing professional footballers out the wazoo has just simply dried up. Perhaps a reflection of their modern culture and society.
France scored well but are still not convincing as their defence is full of more holes than Swiss cheese. I’m going to pick Uruguay to beat Portugal and then Uruguay over France in the quarters to see Uruguay advance to the Semis. Now that I’ve said that, prepare to see Portugal put the kibosh on my predictions as I’m going to bed and won’t see it myself. Good night all, that was a hell of a game!

Thanks for the detailed write up, @glenzinho. Too bad i only write stuff when the match end France 4 vs 3 Argentina: What a way to kick off the knockout round: a 7 goal extravaganza, with victory for the French. While Deschamps's team played a good game, Mbappe being the highlight for his 2 goals and the penalty for Griezmann (though that equalizer from Pavard is nice), you gotta admit that the Argentinians just didn't deserve it. They left a ugly impression of violent fouls and absolute cluelessness. Maybe Argentina could have a shot if they let Augero and Messi be with each other (Seriously, look at his late goal!), but I was rooting for them to lose, so they could actually try to rebuild their messy (or should i say messi hehehehe) team.

That was a hell of a game, with France being the better side and Argentina refusing to go down without a fight. Unless something big comes up in one of these other knockouts, smart money has to be leaning the French way. The next opposition for France will be decided now. I honestly can't call this one - both teams are dirty, scrappy and have potential goals.

Uruguay 2 vs 1 Portugal: Oh my, both Messi and Ronaldo out of the World Cup! But this was a deserving victory for Uruguay. While Portugal only had Ronaldo and uninspired header tactics, Uruguay had cunningness, dirty tricks, great defense and two great strikers. Not a beautiful or clean team, but Uruguay gets their job done, and have rather entertain ways to score goals. Hopefully Cavani's injury won't mean that he will miss the French match (he was the one who scored two great goals here after all, especially the first one!).

Thanks for the company Aisleen and @phobus! Too bad about Cavani hope it’s not too serious. Still got my money on Uruguay to beat France as a champion team will normally beat a team of champions. Tough luck to Messi & Ronaldo, but 10 other players per side also play this game. The next couple of Round of 16 matches come from the other half of the bracket in Spain v Russia and Croatia v Denmark. The smart money would have to certainly be on Spain and Croatia winning to set up a mouth watering quarter final match between the two. I’m going to pick Croatia from this quarter of the bracket to reach the Semis. Not sure if I’ll catch either of these matches, I need to sleep some time.
