What is your opinion on following bad news? Nowadays you have countless sources of endless depressing news that keep reminding you how outrageous and unjust the world is. You can read that stuff all day long and you will never run out of things to get angry about. And if you somehow do run out of them, all you have to do is to start discussing them with other people. These people with their horrible arguments once again will become a limitless source of frustration for you.
My question is: how much does this stuff matter (if at all)? Will I reveal myself as a naive ignorant idiot if I suggest the idea that you can probably greatly increase the quality of your life by choosing to ignore all these news and simply focusing on what you want to do? I guess to an extent you need to know what's happening around you so that you can prevent it from affecting your activities too much. But do you feel like all these bad news really help with that? Especially when you aren't doing anything about them anyway other than discussing them and you aren't living in a 3rd world country.

I blew away all my social media accounts (except for this single forum) and don't watch TV unless it is a specific program I have recorded. I must say, my life is better. If it's important enough, I hear about it through word of mouth.

I say, hecking nay. Bad news, whilst there are plenty, they are useless to dedicate to. I had been spreading this philosophy for a hecking year or two.
Look, if it's that important, you would hear it already from the closest ones in real life (not the internet, real life, because people have stuff to do). Most of the stuff on the TV or internet raise such alarms only to be dispelled merely a few days later. Unless you are a journalist yourself, you don't need to know how many people died by this or that on this or that day.
People will say hearing bad news is good for you, but only for what really really matters. Excessive binging across journals and articles won't do anything, and people, for the sake of discourse, ignore that fact. If you feel frustrated by reading news, then simply don't, start reading a book or a comic or something. That is, unless you are the guy writing the articles, in which case, good luck. TV often raises alarms as well, and that is hecking frustrating in itself. It's a job alright, but hey, I am not the type of guy for such things. Frankly, even if an all-out nuclear war started the very next second I finish this line, I won't be afraid nor would I curse myself for not watching the news (but that's more of a personal thing).
I'm telling yall, life really starts looking good once you "get out of bed" (in this case, stop engaging in discourse and discussions online). I used to feel like shit before, but now, I just... don't. It will bring benefit, for mental health is important as well, and stressing thyself with your daily life + depresso shit as seen everywhere won't help yaz.
Just saying.

When I don’t watch the news I feel a greater sense of well-being in my life. It’s almost like the cunts want us to be miserable. I have one or two customers who come to my store talking to me about current events and it’s all doom and gloom and I can tell they’re just parroting bullshit from the previous nights news. I tell them to change the channel and they’ll feel better. I feel like I’m some of these cunts shrink at times, but I love my blokes. They’re loyal to me and my company even though I tell them they’re wrong and they still buy my shit. People really want honesty deep down, even when they look at you like you’re crazy haha.

A whole lot of bad news ends up being fear-mongering propaganda and one-sided viewpoints.

Correct NuMetalDude, except the correct tense is not ends, but starts. You see these media cunts figured out this shit a long time ago. I feel bad for you newer generation of under 25 or so years old who have been indoctrinated by the media propaganda your whole lives. I’m old enough to still remember a time when the grown ups around me still remembered not to trust any of these cunts. Fuck I can remember watching 1984 back in 1999 with my gf at the time and when it finished I turned to her and said we are living this Orwellian life right now, albeit more colourful and prettier and “nicer” than depicted in the film. She started getting so angry at me and telling me what bullshit that was. Could be bullshit, how do we truly know? Well they haven’t figured out total control yet, but that is the plan.

Ends, starts, what's the bloody god damn difference. I never got indoctrinated by the media, because they seem way too focused on the political and non-political agenda of every politician known to the first world (like everyone honestly should care about what Trump is doing right now at this very moment, even if it is something so god damn trivial), as well as potential crises that end up being irrelevant to 99% of the world. FEAR-MONGERING! Pass it on.
Yeah, total control is the plan alright. The Police's Every Breath You Take and other similar songs really start to have a whole new meaning because of this. Once it goes into effect there is one true superior race, gender, religion, tradition, ...
And now I managed to lose myself right now. But that's what a normal fucking person will end up coming to when this blows the hell over. They'd lose their minds over how society ends up changing to something completely opposite of what they were used to and either will join the brigade of indoctrination and buzzwords or just seppuku entirely. I'd probably end up being the latter.

A whole lot of bad news ends up being fear-mongering propaganda and one-sided viewpoints. ^ Valid point, but that's not always the case. As for me, I'm not following all that moves or crawls in the world, bad news even more so since the negativity can easily be overwhelming, it's much more present than the opposite. But such is the world we live in.

Uhh I don't read news on the Internet at all. I prefer telly and newspapers. The Internet makes me feel miserable as a person, the news would just make it all worse. I'm honestly fine with propaganda/censorship/buzzwords/whatever. I don't have the overwhelming desire to believe in something I am not supposed to believe in for the sake of it. Bad news, uh -- they sometimes really move me. Like, I understand that something needs to be done about it. EG the radical Muslim stuff happening in Syria/Iraq/Afghanistan/Nigeria, -- all that's bad, real shit bad. However I still have issues with comprehending that all this is legit happening somewhere out there despite all the coverage. IDK, I plain can't imagine it. I never do anything about it all tho, because I'm lazy, but yeah the incentive is there. There are people less fortunate than me out there (I consider myself more fortunate than the majority of people, so yeah, this realisation is an important one for me). I blew away all my social media accounts Did you get a flip phone yet? I hope you're proud of yourself. Don't forget to put on your tin foil hat too. :] PS: I'm such a mess of a person, holy cow

Don't follow politics and the fucking news triggers you. Proceed to lay out hot-takes and opinions regardless. Cry because other people think you are an idiot. Rinse and repeat.

I don't watch TV at all for that exact reason - it's filled with depression. Unfortunately, my relatives do and I often catch the glimpses of this depressiveness and I hate it. Even worse, they watch the TV at high volume, as if they intentionally want me to hear it. And the most annoying thing is that my relatives often watch the one most disgusting channel which is filled with absurd lies and conspiracies and it seems they still believe it, as they are often discussing the things there in a serious manner. However, when any of them attempt to discuss that stuff with me, I try my best to shut them up.

I dwell on it for a while, I almost like to know what hell I'm in...
...Almost...
I use it to remain aware, to better myself and try to better the world around me (if given the chance, usually it's quite small and limited to like one guy but I try). Why get lost in the chaos when I could use it as an anchor for greatness?

Are you me? lol No literally, there is this local tv station where old folks from my country call to complain about lizard jews who own banks and fight underground wars or whatever or that there are terrorists from Serbia willing to instigate a war and more often than not it's always the same folks who call. I had the "privilege" of listening to such programme every day for about a month at around 4 pm to 5 pm (I think it was that), and just that one hour would ruin my entire day. And loud volume is a thing (especially with stealing copyrighted music and using it to start and end the show). In fact, the dudes at the station took Halo's theme and used that. Shameless. Literally kills your mood to engage politics, am I right? (everything else applies ofc)
