emojis - smilies existed forever. This is retarded.
"sharing" on social media - I don't want to give anyone the personal touch of my own writing. I'm just gonna link people to whatever I think they should be caring about.
Discord - I don't know why anyone uses this. The UI is really unintuitive and clunky. I hate this thing but for some reason its a choice instant messenger for gamers even though IRC is so much more 'clean'
Candy Crush - It's just fucking bejewled. What is so fascinating about this?
Live streaming - I like watching videos of people playing a game but I don't know what the significance is of it needing to be live. I don't get it. Yeah you can talk to the person playing if they aren't very popular or busy, but that doesn't seem like enough to really sink as much time into it as people seem to. Like seriously...? This person playing League of Legends has 150,000 people watching them right now? What the shit?

Emojis -- literally the same thing as smilies, no need to look that deep into it. Like an equivalent, an evolution. Accept that you're approaching 30, lol, this is a part of it. :]
Sharing -- idk what you meant here?? You're giving us the personal touch of your writing here as well, right now.
Discord -- frickin' full of possibilities. Completely different structure than all social networks. UI works great and consumes surprisingly little bandwidth (if not videochatting ofc). Like an equivalent of IRC... an evolution............. you're nearly 30..................................... etc. IRC is kinda gay srsly, me as a Representative Of The Progressive-Ass Millenial Generation could never figure it out and get it to work. I didn't invest much effort to be fair, but still.
Candy Crush -- LOL brought back 2012 for a while there. Who plays that anymore? Are Angry Birds cool again? Good times. Oppa Gangnam Style.
Streaming -- same with live news broadcasts and stuff. There's no real reason for it to be live but it's kinda cooler that way.
CONCLUSION: gettin' old 40oz m8?

basically what was said above, but a few more to add:
Hipsterdom - doesn't really need explanation because it played itself.
Final Fantasy VII - at least I played it and can confirm it isn't actually a bad game, but it got way more popular than it should have and other RPGs are way better than it.
every shitty meme ever.

For me it's people like Jake Paul, Logan Paul, the Asian and black versions of Jake Paul whose names I'm glad to have forgotten but whose faces and claim to fame still can't get out of my memory. Apparently they're so popular that when there was a boxing match between 2 of them it had more views than any boxing event since the May Weather vs Packman boxing event. I mostly watch livestreams when it's developers showing off a game that hasn't been released yet... like when what has been shown so far has been vague as hell but has an interesting artstyle.

I can somehow tolerate the "HEY YOUTUBE" chat spam from a livestreamer's live stream's clip out on Youtube. It's kinda annoying and pointless; do you spammers have friends over at youtube who envy you for being in a stream as the audience? Do you want someone to come over now? What is the purpose?
But what is absolutely stupid is the presence of memes. Memes. I can tolerate some, say, the "Steamed Hams", that is kinda creative and I gotta give credit to all those people who make their own versions where Seymour and Chalmers sing together, or where Chalmers is a bit more investigative, or where Seymour has to climb a mountain to get hamburgers, it's a good practice in creativity and design, as long as it isn't the only thing they do.
That does not justify the existence of other memes though, nor would any meme ever make up for the shit other memes make and have. Dank memes look like a life-wrecking drug to me, why aren't they limited to inside jokes or something? I don't have time to go through every negative aspect they have, but I can tell, the "profit" they "bring" is being outweighed by a shit-ton of "cons", and in general, isn't worth the time, space, money, energy, whatever.
Also, another fad which had been fucking me up: the popularity of "incels" (people who "cannot get laid" and are agitated about it). Just... why?! Why stress over for sex?! Or, the lack of sex?! Why base your lifestyle on that lack? Isn't that, like, the number one rule of things: "If you stress so much about it, you won't get it" or something? What is worse is the reason the whole "incel" movement became a thing. Apparently, it's "normal" for people to have sex at 16 or 17, and it's considered "abnormal" or something to "not". I am putting the blame on tabloids which also recommend committing adultery and want you to buy exotic condiments from two continents away. Now a lot of teenagers (mostly males) are freaking out over the fact that they didn't get laid already and now there is a movement and now it's just a bunch of bull.
Like, 95% of guy friends I know in my life are definitely virgins (it's the way country works, ya know, youth not being polluted that much), maybe 90% because I don't know some guys that well, but I am still sure they are. And what is happening to them? Are they turning into fedora-tipping neckbeards who play copious amounts of LoL or DotA and scream at normies? Nope. They are all fine lads who are in no rush. Internet, I guess, wants you to think otherwise. Linked to this is the concept of "friend zone" which got popular in the 2'10s. Like, seriously? Ugh. I also want to grab and shake all my "internet friends" who keep making a fuss out of all of the points I made above (maybe not the first two paragraphs because that is my opinion), or are shown to only be engaged in such vices.
I don't have to talk about politics bc yall kinda know my opinion on it, so yeah, not gonna bother you with that.

I have a reasonable argument for these two: Discord is IRC, teamspeak and a file sharing service all in one. It even has video call support now. I agree about the UI, it sucks ass, but the program itself is really useful once you've learned to navigate it. The shitty thing about Discord is that you have to use their privately owned network rather than hosting it on your own network free of surveillance/etc. Live streaming is great for Youtubers who actually engage with their audience and discuss interesting topics. I regularly tune into PaulsEgo's live streams because he has discussions about cool stuff in real time and gets input from many viewers, often reading it aloud and responding. It's great for stuff like that. Otherwise I agree that I don't care about catching content live, it's neat but often unnecessary. The fact that you're a fucking idiot doesn't mean IRC is gay ROFL I'm just kidding, don't take that seriously. Really though, IRC's been around since the 80's and is still the most efficient way to hold either private or public real-time communications on a network you own or one of the many available networks. If you could: 1) run your own privately owned Discord network, 2) Have the program ran on substantially more platforms than it currently does, and 3) If it were open source, then yes, it would have really been the "IRC killer". The fact is in 5-10 years the program is almost guaranteed to be a memory if these 3 big issues aren't addressed. For now though, yay! Easy voice and video chat!

I never accepted the fact that it's okay to say "meme" now. I remember the time when using that word made you look like a retard from 4chan with no life, and I'd prefer it to stay that way.

Final Fantasy VII - at least I played it and can confirm it isn't actually a bad game, but it got way more popular than it should have and other RPGs are way better than it. One word: trends. Unfortunately this is how an annoyingly large amount of people seem to work. It's enough for something to become popular and a few critics or people to recommend that certain thing, be played by a streamer/youtuber and bang, shit gets viral. Just like Fortnite, PUBG, and CS:GO got so damn popular after all, the first one I never played myself and never will, so I've got nothing to say about it, but the last 2 I did, CS:GO extensively, and they're trash imo. There's vastly superior games out there and yet these get all the attention. Fine by me, let the tasteless herd flock to the greatly overrated titles and the ones who search for quality not be counted among them.

umm, Discord is awesome... 😄😄😄😄
heres some actual stupid shit that recently has gotten to be a new popular thing:
-Writing "Fuck Trump" on the toilet lid, then licking the toilet rim...
-snorting condoms through your nose and trying to get it come out of your mouth..
these are all real, look it up

I don't have time to go through every negative aspect they have, but I can tell, the "profit" they "bring" is being outweighed by a shit-ton of "cons", and in general, isn't worth the time, space, money, energy, whatever. WTF lol It's literally just jokes, man. How can you waste time, space, MONEY, energy or anything else on that? OK you do lose bandwidth, but on the other hand you GAIN a lot of Positive Giggle Energy. At least I do. It's not like anyone takes those jokes seriously, even the Nazi/paedophilia/mysogyny/incest ones. Everyone just Giggles and Moves On. So should you. "incels" (people who "cannot get laid" and are agitated about it). Uh. Most of the time it's just people bitching about it for the sake of bitching, not because they actually feel the overwhelming urge to PUT PAINIS IN BAGENE. It's a meme! Why stress over for sex?! Or, the lack of sex?! Why base your lifestyle on that lack? IDK maybe because nature bases every human organism on sex and all that?? Nah that's a stupid idea! Internet, I guess, wants you to think otherwise. Very important point. There are no real people on the internet. NOT ONE OF US IS A REAL PERSON! But many people forget or dismiss that. It's essential for a person to realize that the Internet is full of freaks, and therefore you should act accordingly. What I mean is that you shouldn't apply anything the Internet says to your real life provided you have one.The fact that you're a fucking idiot doesn't mean IRC is gay No u

*literally behaving like a bag of agitated salt* WOAH calm down I didn't mean to offend you, it's just a joke man, just a joke on the internet, I never said any of that crap, woah, how agitated you can be, like calm down your mammaries.Obvious joke aside, just how many things are or aren't real on the internet, anyways? I guess this would be fine if not for at least 99% of real life people (who go outside once in a while) who take the internet seriously, and most of these in a percentage being politically-inclined peeps and little kiddos who think the "Ugandan Knuckles" is a funny and a relevant thing ( not even calling it a meme, its just disgraceful). Its absolutely, entirely, conceptually, practically, theoretically, and in all other non mentioned branches and ways useless to say that the "Internet shouldn't be taken seriously". Pull out your strawman battalion, whip out your counter-arguments, be a "troll", do whatever you want, but you know it as well, if it isn't me, or if isn't you, then there is surely a third, if not fourth person somewhere in the world taking a statement on the internet seriously, and is wishing to acquire some sort of short-lived fame and be etched into the wall as a "meme", risking their well-being in process. It's not even a case of competing for a Darwin Award or anything, there is more harm to be done and found with the whole internet culture than the benefit in all of it. We might help a actor beat cancer, but god knows how many very young and very gullible people are having their hopes and dreams, and maybe even lives ruined for trying to be themselves in a fucking zoo that is the internet, a place where nothing but 90% of it is serious and with the way world looks today you might not be able to tell the fake stuff anymore.

It has nothing to do with the internet. People who take everything seriously, regardless of how they're accessing it, are flat out buzzkills at best and lunatics who call for the removal of rights at worst.

showing your age with that one dn, rofl. So glad that annoying crap went out of vogue. Seems like it took a lot longer for that to happen back then, things last weeks rather than years now, or maybe my perception of time is just that different now.

The internet is valuable for a lot of reasons, but what I find so useful for it is to facilitate and spread useful and interesting information, but also to be entertained. So by that standard I try to write helpful and useful posts as often as I can as well as try to say things that I think would be funny if I read them.
It sucks there are people who take the internet too seriously, because I get all my love and attention and real social connections from outside of the internet, and it's unfortunate that there are people who don't and get irritable with people for not being nicer to them. I have a pretty respectful distance between myself and my internet personality, I guess. In the last few years more and more people have become easily disturbed so I've been more sensitive and open about myself as a means to show people that I'm not a shitbag. But I really would prefer to treat the internet like I'm playing a game and not merge myself and my avatar into the same thing.
People who treat the internet and everyone in it like it's their personal reality is some dumb shit that got popular but I understand it and it makes sense even though it fucking sucks.

I remember the time when using that word made you look like a retard from 4chan with no life, and I'd prefer it to stay that way. I'm surprised people remember old 4chan for the memes and not for the cruel people that posted there and their "pranks". It didn't help that Jackass, Mythbusters, Dirty Sanchez, the unrealistic C grade action movies and the "crazy stunts" section of Youtube were all thriving at the time or that for some reason people actually trusted the internet and posted threads on 4chan before running things through with google.. but it was way more well known for being a place where people hid behind anonymity and knowingly tricked OPs into doing stupid things that had 100% chance of getting themselves killed or inflicting wounds on their pets that would result in them having to get euthanized for "comedic value".. One example after someone got poisoned, the thread changed from feigning interest with "Oh this looks interesting, keep us updated, for science!" to "haha now you're going to die you retard, you needed more protection than just a gas mask to survive your experiment, I can't believe you actually just gassed yourself you absolute madman!" and suddenly the specialists come out of the woodwork with "also, the fumes are going to linger so anyone in your immediate surroundings or with whom you share a house with will have their lungs melt and they'll choke to death if they inhale the noxious fumes, I hope you don't have any pets or live in a flat!" while said OP is melting internally, his skin is peeling off, has 15 minutes to live and he posts a final "goodbye". Fuck there were some disturbing and gut wrenching reads over there. I dunno.. I get the "do stupid things, get stupid rewards" thing, but I also think that most people that actually lived out their early years had defied Darwinism atleast once... it's just that mid to late 2000's Darwinism really was in it's own league with all the C-grade garbage that was on tv and wanting your 5 minutes of fame to try go viral.. I can't believe shit like "you can hide behind car doors to block bullets" actually had to get debunked... I wonder how many criminals died in shootouts because of that one. Also; 40oz , you posted a meme in Trace's "post funnies" thread and the "tits or gtfo" was before even 2008, you dinosaur. ;)
